<br /> 56-181 - The follow-lng letter from J.L. Jolliff,. Delinquent Tax Collector, was read:
<br /> "I am inclosing ~u offer frqm Edward C. Allen of the American National Ba~k, to bid at
<br />least $600.00 on lots 65, 66, 67, 68, 70, 79 and 80 on the west side of Lee Avenue in the Pinners Point area.
<br /> These lots have been held in the name of the City of Portsmouth for many years and
<br />during ~his time no revenue has been recezved from ~hem by the City. Mr. Allen tells me that he has a client who
<br />is desirous of ~recting a residence on four of these lots. This land is not a playground and is not being used
<br />for any purpose~by the City. I recommend t~at~t~is property be sold in order ~hat they may be put on the books
<br />of the City as a taxable value. I am inclosing a sketch of these lots.
<br /> Motion of ~r. Howard that this property be advertised for sale, subjecm to the approval~
<br />of the~ Pl~mnning Engineer, was adopted.
<br /> 56-182 - The following letters from the City Collector ~ere read:
<br /> "On March 19th, ~rs.Margare~ F. McMurran purchased City License Tag 506. for State Licens~
<br /> 240494. On June 4th, Mrs. Mc~urran also purchased City Tag 11457 for the smme State license. ~irs.McMurran has
<br /> returned Tag 11457~ to me and is entitled to m refund of $10.00.-l~lease~ ~ authprize~ ~his refund."
<br /> "On March El, the J.L. & P.Corpn. (Mrs. Mose~erth) purchased City License Tag #723 for
<br />State license #240307. On May 29, the J.L. & P. Corpn. purchased City Tag $9415 for the same State license. Mrs.
<br />MoSeberth has returned Tag #9415 to me and is entitle~ mo a refund of $10.00 Please authorize this refund."

<br /> "The undersigned residents and property owners of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />living an~ owning their homes in the immediate vicinity and adjo,ining the tract of land facing the new Woodrow
<br />Wilson High School, and bounded by the streets known as West Road, Walnut Road and Locust Way, respectfully
<br />represmt:
<br /> Whereas, the City proposes to construct a huge pamking lot on said ~ract of land fa~n
<br />the front of the said high school, and
<br /> Where~s, there is ample land, unused, in the rear of said high school for the construc-
<br />tion of the proposed parking lot, and
<br /> Whereas, the said tract of land facing the front of s~id high school, owned by the Cit
<br />of Portsmouth, is unkept with overgrowin~ grass and weeds, and that this section of the City of Portsmouth is
<br />populated with beautiful and valu~le homes, and said unkept land and the proposed parking lot would destroy the
<br />value of these beautiful homes, and deface the:beauty of said high school and the n~ghhorhood, and is a reflec-
<br />tion on the City of Portsmouth%
<br /> They therefore prot~s~ against the construction of this parking loi on the land facing
<br />the front of the said high school, a~d respectfully petition the Council of the City of Portsmouth to direct the
<br />City Engineer or their proper department in matters of this kind, to beautify this important area by promoting
<br />this tract of la~.d, into a well kept park or campus to~ the said ~e~ beautiful Woodrow Wilson High School, and ~o
<br />the general vicinity of the home,owners in this area and ~o the ~ity of Portsmouth at large, and to construc~ the
<br /> proposed parking lot in the rear of the said high school.
