Each of the four young ladies who has been de$i~-i hated M/ss Portsmouth has been very carefully selected on the basis of beauty, talent poise and nersonalitv Eac~ has represented Portsmouth in the Miss Virginia Pageant. Also, each has served a multitude of co'unity act~it~es~ fund raising.drives, c~v~c projects, etc. Service o£ this kind, however, has been entirely uno£ficial. It occurs To us now that some official recognition of Miss Portsmouth on the part of our Municipal Government would be good public relations for the City end further credit To the ou~szanding young ladies who bear the title. We envision her serving as Official Hostess for much municipal functions as may be appropriate, serving with the~major To grace such occasions as opening drives, cutting ribbons and the like_ · We propose thai you, by resolution, special ordinance, or whatever means is proper, desiEnate Miss Barbara Turner "Miss Portsmouth of 1956" as Portsmouth's Official Hostess, the designation re pass in turn to each succeeding Miss Portsmouth.
