1:68 <br /> <br />July 8. 1997 <br /> <br /> At a Regular Meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday, July 8, 1997, there <br />were present: <br /> <br /> Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons, Bernard D. <br />Griffin, Sr. James T. Martin, Cameron C. Pitts, P. Ward Robinett, Jr.. J. Thomas <br />Benn III, Ronald W. Massie, City Manager, G. Timothy Oksman, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Councilman Benn opened the meeting with prayer which was followed by the <br />Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Robinett. and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to approve the minutes of <br />a Called Meeting on June 24, 1997: a Regular Meeting on June 24, 1997 with the <br />noted correction on the vote for agenda item 97-185; and was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br />97-190- <br /> <br />Resolution commending RADVA Corporation on its selection as <br />Portsmouth's Small Business of the Year and the Hampton Roads' Small <br />Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin. and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION COM MENDING RADVA CORPORATION ON iTS SELECTION AS <br />PORTSMOUTH'S SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AND THE HAMPTON <br />ROADS' SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. <br /> <br /> Whereas. RADVA Corporation was chartered as a Virginia corporation in 1962 <br />and presently operates manufacturing plants in Portsmouth and Radford, Virginia for <br />the production of molded and fabricated packaging products; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, its emphasis on quality control, for which it has received numerous <br />awards, has identified RADVA Corporation as a national and international leader in <br />its field; and <br /> <br /> ' Whereas, RADVA Corporation created the first recycling program in the State <br />of Virginia for polystyrene products; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, RADVA Corporation, its officers and employees, are outstanding <br />corporate citizens of the City of Portsmouth and Hampton Roads; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires to recogmze the <br />achievements of this local business as an example for which other businesses <br />should strive. <br /> <br /> Now. Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia. that the Council hereby commends RADVA Corporation on its selection as <br />Portsmouth's Small Business of the Year and as Hampton Roads' Small Business of <br />the Year by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.'* <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn. Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett,.Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />· Presentation of a resolution to Stephen Dickens and Mike Samples commending <br /> RADVA Corporation on its selection as Portsmouth's Small Business of the Year <br /> and the Hampton Roads' Small Business of the Year by the Chamber of <br /> Commerce. <br /> <br />97- 19! - Presentations: <br /> <br />· Presentation of special lapel pins to newly appointed Boards and <br /> Commissions members. <br /> <br /> <br />
