1:68 July 8. 1997 At a Regular Meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday, July 8, 1997, there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr. James T. Martin, Cameron C. Pitts, P. Ward Robinett, Jr.. J. Thomas Benn III, Ronald W. Massie, City Manager, G. Timothy Oksman, City Attorney. Councilman Benn opened the meeting with prayer which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. Motion of Mr. Robinett. and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to approve the minutes of a Called Meeting on June 24, 1997: a Regular Meeting on June 24, 1997 with the noted correction on the vote for agenda item 97-185; and was adopted by unanimous vote. 97-190- Resolution commending RADVA Corporation on its selection as Portsmouth's Small Business of the Year and the Hampton Roads' Small Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Motion by Mr. Martin. and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION COM MENDING RADVA CORPORATION ON iTS SELECTION AS PORTSMOUTH'S SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AND THE HAMPTON ROADS' SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Whereas. RADVA Corporation was chartered as a Virginia corporation in 1962 and presently operates manufacturing plants in Portsmouth and Radford, Virginia for the production of molded and fabricated packaging products; and Whereas, its emphasis on quality control, for which it has received numerous awards, has identified RADVA Corporation as a national and international leader in its field; and ' Whereas, RADVA Corporation created the first recycling program in the State of Virginia for polystyrene products; and Whereas, RADVA Corporation, its officers and employees, are outstanding corporate citizens of the City of Portsmouth and Hampton Roads; and Whereas, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires to recogmze the achievements of this local business as an example for which other businesses should strive. Now. Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia. that the Council hereby commends RADVA Corporation on its selection as Portsmouth's Small Business of the Year and as Hampton Roads' Small Business of the Year by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.'* Ayes: Benn.
