April 9th, 1957 up and read: 57-131 - The following ordinance, placed on first reading at last meeting, was taken "AN ORDINANCE TO A~END AND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 15 OF ARTICLE 2 AND SECTIONS 35 and 36 OF ARTICLE 7 OF CHAPTER 19 of THE CODE OF TH~ CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1951, RELATING TO COMINGLING OF FUNDS, REFUND OF coNTRIBUTIONS AND ADDITIONAL DEATH BENEFITS" On motion of Mr. Weisemsn, said ordinance was adopted and hy the following vote: Ayes: Bartlett, Baker, Minton, Kirby, Scott, Smith, Weiseman Nays: None 57-108 - The matter of the sale of property at northwest conxer of North St. and Secon~ Avenue, to the Ambassador Club, was taken up. Motion of Mr. Hinton to suspend the rules to hear from a member of the Ambassadors' Club, was adopted. . .f Mr. Miller spoke for the sale of the property. M6tion Of Mr. Smith that this pr6perty he referred'to th& Planning Commission for rezoning, was adopted. 57-146 - _NEW . BUSINESS - The following letter from George R. W~lker was read: "It is requested that I be granted the~privilege of the floor for approximately fifteen minutes on Tuesday, April 9th, 1957, in order that I may read two letters containing infermation about the actions of the Federal Ho~sing Authority whic~b is of vital interest to the members of the CoUncil and to the property- o~raing citizens of this City." ,. . Motion of Mr. Kirby to suspend the rules to hear from Mr. Walker, was adopted. Mr. Walker requested that this matter be deferred until the next regular Council meetinl. 57-147 - The following petition was presented: "We, the undersigned residents of Park View do petition the City of Portsmouth to clean up or ha~e cleaned the waterfront on or near North Elm Ave. situated ~n the W~stern Branch of the Elizabeth River. This waterfront has been a menace to healthful living and hazardous to children for too long.
