April 9th, 1957 <br /> <br />up and read: <br /> <br />57-131 - The following ordinance, placed on first reading at last meeting, was taken <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO A~END AND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 15 OF ARTICLE 2 AND SECTIONS 35 and 36 <br />OF ARTICLE 7 OF CHAPTER 19 of THE CODE OF TH~ CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1951, RELATING <br />TO COMINGLING OF FUNDS, REFUND OF coNTRIBUTIONS AND ADDITIONAL DEATH BENEFITS" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Weisemsn, said ordinance was adopted and hy the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Bartlett, Baker, Minton, Kirby, Scott, Smith, Weiseman <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 57-108 - The matter of the sale of property at northwest conxer of North St. and Secon~ <br />Avenue, to the Ambassador Club, was taken up. <br /> Motion of Mr. Hinton to suspend the rules to hear from a member of the Ambassadors' <br />Club, was adopted. . .f <br /> Mr. Miller spoke for the sale of the property. <br /> M6tion Of Mr. Smith that this pr6perty he referred'to th& Planning Commission for <br /> <br />rezoning, was adopted. <br /> <br />57-146 - <br /> <br />_NEW . BUSINESS - <br /> <br />The following letter from George R. W~lker was read: <br /> <br /> "It is requested that I be granted the~privilege of the floor for approximately fifteen <br />minutes on Tuesday, April 9th, 1957, in order that I may read two letters containing infermation about the actions <br />of the Federal Ho~sing Authority whic~b is of vital interest to the members of the CoUncil and to the property- <br />o~raing citizens of this City." ,. . <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Kirby to suspend the rules to hear from Mr. Walker, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Walker requested that this matter be deferred until the next regular Council meetinl. <br /> 57-147 - The following petition was presented: <br /> <br /> "We, the undersigned residents of Park View do petition the City of Portsmouth to clean <br />up or ha~e cleaned the waterfront on or near North Elm Ave. situated ~n the W~stern Branch of the Elizabeth River. <br />This waterfront has been a menace to healthful living and hazardous to children for too long.
