August 27, 1997 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Wednesday, August 27, 1997, there were <br />present: <br /> <br /> Mayor James W. HOlley, III, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemens, *Bernard D. <br />Griffin, Sr., James T. Martin, Cameron C. Pitts, J. Thomas Benn III, City Manager <br />Ronald W. Massie, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman <br /> <br />97-241 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the Council <br />Chamber, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor of City Hall, at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, <br />August 27, 1997, for the purpose of a joint City Council Meeting with Suffolk City <br />Council, and to authorize the City Managers to enter into an agreement. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an Executive Session. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />The following Suffolk City Council Members were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas G. Underwood, Vice Mayor Charles F. Brown, Leroy Bennett, Curtis <br />R. Milteer, J Samuel Carter. S. Chris Jones, Marian B. Rogers <br /> <br />City Manager Myles Standish <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Clemens opened the meeting with prayer which was followed by <br />Vice Mayor Brown, City of Suffolk, with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayors Holley and Underwood called the meeting to order and welcomed all <br />in attendance. <br /> <br />City Managers Massie and Standish remarked on the proposed venture. <br /> <br />97 - 242 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing a water agreement between the City <br />of Portsmouth and the City of Suffolk. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A WATER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE CITY OF SUFFOLK. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that the <br />City Manger be, and hereby is, authorized to execute and to deliver to the City of <br />Suffolk, Virgima, a water agreement to provide for the sale by the City of Portsmouth <br />and the purchase by the City of Suffolk of additional bulk surplus water. A copy of <br />said agreement, entitled "Second Agreement to Water Agreement," is attached <br />hereto." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemens, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned at 11:16 a.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> Dr. James W.
