BroWn. <br /> Minutes Of'the'previous meeting were read and approved. <br />· 58-171,~-' M~tion of Mr. Weiseman to suspend the rules to hear from citizens of <br />Prentis Park, was adopted. . . <br /> ~ Mr. Francls L. Parks spoke requesting infor~tation concer~ingwel£are money paid ~e <br />a colored family which moved into a white neighborhood on Fayette St.,-an~ also requested a-i~g~l opinion from <br />City Attorney concerning this family being moved. <br /> <br /> No actioh. <br /> <br /> The following~gp~rts from the_City Manager.w?re r_ead: <br /> <br /> 58-172d- "~I'recommend the adoption of the ordinance introduced at a previous mee~- <br />lng making Columbia St. one way wes~ from'~r~wfor~ Street to Chestnut~treet. <br /> I.~iso re~m~nd that ~ke% Stree%, ~hich~i,s~so~t~f'the WAVY studio b~ <br />made one way east between Middle Street a~d S&aboard Street; which is east of the studio. <br /> It is also my recommendation tl~at ~S~board Street remain two way between <br />Columbia Street and South otreet .... <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman re plage the following ordinance~on firs~ reading was adopte~ <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEN~ ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF <br /> THE CITY OF~PORTSMOb~, 1951,-BYADDINGTHERETO A~NEWSECTION~ TO BE <br /> KNOWN AS SECTION 30-142.5, REkITING TO O~-WAY STREETS" .... ~ <br /> <br /> ' Motor Vehicle Di~ <br /> ''58-173q- "I have conferred with the proper afficis32s~df the State <br /> informed that heavy motor equipment s~ch as ~he crane referred ~q at a previous Council meeting <br />vision <br /> and <br /> I <br /> was <br />does not require a license plate in the S~a~e of Virginia." <br /> On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 58-17t~- "I am reporting on the ques%ion of the removal of a ~ree at 108 Oregon <br />Ave., reported to Council by Mr. Gallegher0 I shall read the attached letter which I believers self-explanatory <br />concerning this-matter and will not require action by Council." <br /> <br /> On motion filed. <br /> <br /> ~58Z175, ~ ~'At ~ previous meeting, of~ .$qu~q~l, they requested .that I have study made <br />of parking conditions on both sides of the. 700 and 800 ~loqk~s of Fourth Street. I have a copy of the letter as <br />directed." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 58-17~- '!I am reporting that all Qf the property known as the Carver Homes site <br /> fronting on Gosport Road has been purchased, with the exception of the Jordan property. The City Attorney insti- <br /> tuted condemnation proceedings for the acquisition of this property and the attorneys for the owners have agreed <br /> ~o ~ccept the, Fum of $9,~00.00 for the propeKty.~ <br /> The City Attorney reported this ~o me and I agree that the amount is in <br /> <br />line with the prmce we have paid for ot~er property fronting on Gosport Road and I recommend that the Council ap- <br />prove the price of $9,300.00 for the property and that an appropriation in the sum of $9,300.00 be placed on <br />first reading for the purpose of defraying the cost of said property.". <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman re place an appropriation of $9,300.00 on first reading forl <br /> said purpose, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 58-178~{- "I recommend that the City Manager be directed and authorized re offer <br />for sale the Jordan house and the house purchased from Alton Smith at public auction, said buildings to be removec <br />from the premises within fifteen days from the date of sale." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Scott to concur in the recommendation of t~le City Manager was adop~e,[. <br /> <br /> <br />
