Minutes Of'the'previous meeting were read and approved. · 58-171,~-' M~tion of Mr. Weiseman to suspend the rules to hear from citizens of Prentis Park, was adopted. . . ~ Mr. Francls L. Parks spoke requesting infor~tation concer~ingwel£are money paid ~e a colored family which moved into a white neighborhood on Fayette St.,-an~ also requested a-i~g~l opinion from City Attorney concerning this family being moved. No actioh. The following~gp~rts from the_City Manager.w?re r_ead: 58-172d- "~I'recommend the adoption of the ordinance introduced at a previous mee~- lng making Columbia St. one way wes~ from'~r~wfor~ Street to Chestnut~treet. I.~iso re~m~nd that ~ke% Stree%, ~hich~i,s~so~t~f'the WAVY studio b~ made one way east between Middle Street a~d S&aboard Street; which is east of the studio. It is also my recommendation tl~at ~S~board Street remain two way between Columbia Street and South otreet .... Motion of Mr. Weiseman re plage the following ordinance~on firs~ reading was adopte~ "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEN~ ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF~PORTSMOb~, 1951,-BYADDINGTHERETO A~NEWSECTION~ TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 30-142.5, REkITING TO O~-WAY STREETS" .... ~ ' Motor Vehicle Di~ ''58-173q- "I have conferred with the proper afficis32s~df the State informed that heavy motor equipment s~ch as ~he crane referred ~q at a previous Council meeting vision and I was does not require a license plate in the S~a~e of Virginia." On motion filed. 58-17t~- "I am reporting on the ques%ion of the removal of a ~ree at 108 Oregon Ave., reported to Council by Mr. Gallegher0 I shall read the attached letter which I believers self-explanatory concerning this-matter and will not require action by Council." This was.,re~erre~ baq~ re the ~ity Ma~nge~ f~or further~tudy., 58-176,~- "At a previous mee%ing of the.~ouncil, I was instructed to have available a copy of a letter written by Mayor Bartlett, concerning the S~abqard building. I have a copy of the letter as directed." On motion filed. 58-17~- '!I am reporting that all Qf the property known as the Carver Homes site fronting on Gosport Road has been purchased, with the exception of the Jordan property. The City Attorney insti- tuted condemnation proceedings for the acquisition of this property and the attorneys for the owners have agreed ~o ~ccept the, Fum of $9,~00.00 for the propeKty.~ The City Attorney reported this ~o me and I agree that the amount is in line with the prmce we have paid for ot~er property fronting on Gosport Road and I recommend that the Council ap- prove the price of $9,300.00 for the property and that an appropriation in the sum of $9,300.00 be placed on first reading for the purpose of defraying the cost of said property.". Motion of Mr. Weiseman re place an appropriation of $9,300.00 on first reading forl said purpose, was adopted. 58-178~{- "I recommend that the City Manager be directed and authorized re offer for sale the Jordan house and the house purchased from Alton Smith at public auction, said buildings to be removec from the premises within fifteen days from the date of sale."
