SePtember 23, 1997 <br /> <br />2,13 <br /> <br /> t'A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO ESTABLISH A PROJECT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF <br />THE CLIFFORD STREET BRIDGE. <br /> <br /> ~VVHEREAS, the City Council of Portsmouth, Virginia, desires that the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) establish a project for the <br />removal and replacement of the Clifford Street Bridge; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to VDOT construction allocation procedures, a <br />resolution must be adopted by the governing body requesting that VDOT <br />progr~ ~m an urban highway project and agreeing to reimburse VDOT for its <br />total osts should the City elect to cancel the project. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br /> Port~ nouth, Virginia, hereby requests that the above-described project for the <br /> repla¢ement of the Clifford Street Bridge be programmed by the Virginia <br /> Depar [ment of Transportation as an urban highway project. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Portsmouth <br /> hereb i agrees to pay its share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, <br /> right ~f way acquisition, and construction of this project in accordance with <br /> Section 33.1-44 of the Code of Virginia; and that, if the City of Portsmouth <br /> subspquentiy elects to cancel this project, the City of Portsmouth hereby <br /> agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of Transportation for the total <br /> amou it_of the costs expended by the_Department through the date the <br /> <br />Depm <br />waive <br /> <br />Ayes: <br />Nays: <br /> <br />~nent is notified of such cancellation, if such reimbursement is not <br />by the Commonwealth Transportation Board." <br /> <br />Benn, Griffin, Martin, Robinett, Holley <br />None <br /> <br />97-266- <br /> <br />Adoption of a motion to transfer $147,702 from the General Fund <br />Contingency (Emergency) for the enhancement of emergency <br />medical services. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Motion to transfer $147,702 from the General Fund Contingency <br /> (Emergency) for the enhancement of emergency medical services. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />Due to the increased volume of calls placed on ambulances and the <br />upcoming closure of Portsmouth General Hospital's Emergency <br />Department, there will be a need to transport patients to hospitals located <br />outside the city limits of Portsmouth.
