~=~+~ 18th. 1958. <br /> <br />At a called meeting of the City Council, held on September 18th, 1958, there were present: <br /> <br />B.W. Baker, A.C. Bartlett, W.R. Breedlove, R.B. Seward, R. Irvine Smith, <br />George R. Walker, A.P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager, and ~.S. Livesay, City <br />Attorney. <br /> <br />The meeting was opened w'ith prayer by Mr. Breedlove. <br /> <br />The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />"Please attend a called meeting of the City Council, in the Council Chamber <br />at 8:00 P.M., on Thursday, September 18th, 1958p at 8:00 P.M., to consider <br />the following: <br /> 1. Exterision of time for' Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company to remove <br /> salvage material and ~racks from waterfron5 property. <br /> 2. Terms of lease of space in Mu3aicipal Office Building to the Seaboard <br /> Air Line Railroad. <br /> 3. Proposal To close King Street a/Id County Street, east of Water Street. <br /> 4. TeIgns of lease by Seaboard to the City, of parking lot at Water and <br /> King Streets." <br /> <br /> 58-288 - The City Attorney presented a contract for extension of time for the Seaboard <br />Air Line Railroad Company to remove salvage material and tracks'from waterfron~ property. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Walker that the Mayor be authorized to sign the contract and~ that the' City <br />Clerk be authorized to attest and affix the seal of the City to same, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Baker, Bartlett, Breedlove, Seward, Smith, walker <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 58-289 - The City Attorney presented a lease for space in the new Municipal Office <br />building to the Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company. <br /> <br /> Motion of ~Lr. Breedlove that the Mayor be authorized to sign the lease and that the <br />City Clerk be authorized to attest and affix the seal of the City to same, was adopted,and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Baker, Bartlett, Breedlove, Seward, Smith, Walker <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Railroad ~ompany: <br /> <br />58-290 - The City Attorney presented the following request from the Seaboard Air Line <br /> <br /> T undersigned respectfully requests that those portions of King and County Streets I <br />which lie east of Water St. be vacated in accordance with the provisions of Section 15-766 of the Code of Vir- t <br />ginia. This action is required by you pursuant to Paragraph 12 of that certain agreement between the undersigned/ <br />and you dated December il, 1957, covering the sale of approximately 24 acres of waterfront property. <br /> The undersigned owns all the property abutting the portions of the streets to be closed <br />and the streets have not been physically open for more than one hundred years. The closing of these streets will, <br />in no way adversely affect the ~rights or property of any private person or the public. Attached is a copy of the <br />notice which has been posted in accordance with the requirements of the Code. Signed L.L. Knight, Vice Pres. I <br /> <br />sideration, was adopted. Motion of Mr. Breedlove that this be referred to the Planning Commission for early con- <br /> 58-291 - The City Attorney presented s lease for the parking lot at Water and King Stsl; <br />belonging to the Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove that the Mayor be authorized to sign the lease and that the <br />City Clerk be authorized to attest and affix the seal of the City to same, was adopted, and by the following <br />vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Baker, Bartlett, Breedlove, Seward, Smith,Walker <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 55r292 - Mr. Smith presented an invitation to the Council and City Manager to parti- <br />cipate in the Woodrow Wilson Home-Coming Celebration on October 10th, 1958. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
