<br />58-293 - "RESOLVED by She Council of the City of Portsmouth:
<br />
<br />The Council expresses its grave concern over the recent events which affect the
<br />public schools in this area and theie effect upon the education and welfare of
<br />the childre~ in the public schools. The;denial of education to these children
<br />may cause untold damage to the children and their parents. In this crisis it is
<br />our duty to stand together and to render assistance within the limits of our re -
<br />sources to these ~hildren in order that education may not be irreparably impaired.
<br />
<br />It is. possible that school'facilities and personnel are available within this City
<br />which could be employed to assist in educating children whose education has been
<br />dis.rBpted by recent, events. Accordingly. CoUncil expresses the hope that the School
<br />Board of this City will co-operate in all $ppropriate ways. to alleviate the condi-
<br />tions, which exist in this area and lend such assistance as it properly can in ab -
<br />sorbing the impact of the closing of certain public schools in the City of Norfolk."
