<br />At a called meeting of the City Council, held on October 7th, 1958, there were

<br />B. W. Baker, A.C.. Bartlett, W. R. Breedlove, n.B. Seward, George R. Walker,
<br />H. Earl Weiseman, A.P. Johnson,Jr., City Manager, and J.S. Livesay, City Allorney.
<br />
<br />The me eting was opened with prayer by Mr. Breedlove.
<br />
<br />The following call for the meeting was read:

<br />"You are requested To attend a called meeting of the City Council, in the Council
<br />Chamber, au 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, October 7th, 1958, to consider:

<br /> 1. An ordinance £or acquisition of property in Nansemond County.
<br /> 2. Electic~ o£ a member to the Housing Authority.

<br />"~N ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE ACQUISITION OF CERTA~IN PROPERTY IN
<br />NANSEMOND COUNTY, V.IRGINIA, NECESSARY FOR USE BY THE CITY FOR A WATERWORKS
<br />AND RELATED FACILITIES, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 258 OF THE ACTS OF ASSEMBLY
<br />OF 1958."

<br />Motion of Mr. Bartlett To amend the ordinance to omit reference to the Dodd property,
<br />
<br />ing vote:

<br />On motion of Mr. Weisemsn, the ordinance, as amended, was adopted, and by the follow-

<br />Ayes: Baker, Bartlett, Breedlove, Seward, Walker, Weiseman
<br />Nays: None
<br />
<br /> 58-309 - Motion of Mr. Weiseman to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Housing
<br />Authority, was adopted.
<br />
<br />Mr. Weiseman nominated L. C. Powell.
<br />
<br />Mr. Walker nominated John P. Leigh, Jr.
<br />
<br />On motion of Mr. Breedlove, nominations were closed.
<br />
<br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Leigh was elected a member of the Portsmouth Housing Authority
<br />for s four year term beginning September 12th, 1955, and by the following vote:

<br />For Mr. Leigh: Baker, Breedlove, Seward, Walker
<br />For Mr. Powell: Bartlett, Weiseman
<br />
<br />58r301 - The following report of the viewers elected at the last meeting of the Council was rea
<br />
<br />"The andersigned viewers, elected by the Council, pursuant to ~ resolution adopted
<br /> at your regular meeting on September 30, 1958, did, on the 6th day of October,
<br /> 1958, convene in the area set forth in the said resolution, and examine the premises
<br /> and the following s~reers proposed To be closed:
<br /> (a) That portion of King St. lying east of Water St. and extending to
<br /> the Elizabeth River.
<br /> (b) That portion of County St., lying east of Water St., and extending
<br /> To the Elizabeth River.
<br /> It is the opinion of the viewers that no inconvenience will be caused to the public
<br /> or any private person because said portions of streets have not been open physically
<br /> for many years and the same, if opened, would dead-end in the Elizabeth River.
