At a called meeting of tho City Council, held on November 3rd, 1958, there were present: <br /> <br />~.W. Baker, A.C,. Bartlett, W.. ~j B~eedlove, R.B. Seward,. ~. Irvine Smith, <br />George ~. Walker, R.-Earl Weiseman, A.P.. Johnson, Jr,., City Manager, and <br />J.S. Livesay,City Attorney. <br /> <br />The following tail for ~he meeting were read: <br /> <br />"PleaEe attend a calle'd meeling of the City Council to be held on Monday, November 3rd, <br />1958, a~ 4:30 P.M~., in the Council Chamber~ to consider ~he following ordinance: <br /> <br />'AN ORDINANCE AL~fHORIZING ~HE ISSUANCE OF EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND <br />DOLLARS OF BONDS OF THE :CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, TO BE KN0~N AS <br />GENERAL IMPROVEMENT BONDS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF OPENING, WIDENING AND <br />PAVING CERTAIN STREETS, INSTALLING STOR~ DRAINS, CURBS AND GUTTERS AND <br />ACQUIRING AN~ IMPROVING CERTAIN REAL ESTATE AND BUILDINGS IN THE SAID CITY, <br />UJ~KING PROVISION FOR THE FOR~ OF' SAID BOND~, AND FOR THE PAYMENT THEREOF' <br />By order of the President." <br />58-336 - The following letter from the City Manager was read: <br /> <br /> "I am submitting the attached ordinance and recommend that itb-e placed on first readin <br /> This ordinance authorizes the issuance of $850,000~00 of General Imp rovemenr Bonds. <br />They are issued for the purpose of certain szreet zmprovements, purchase of waterfront property, remodeling of <br />Seaboard buildin~ donated to the City, and certain drainage improvements." <br /> <br />On motion of ~Lr. Walker, ~he following ordinance was placed on first reading: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND <br /> DOLLARS OF-BONDS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH,~VIRGINIA~, TO BE KNOWN AS GENERAL <br /> I~PROVEMENT BONDS~ FOR THE PURPOSE OF OPENING, WIDENING AND PAVING CERTAIN <br /> STREETS, INSTALLING STOR~DRAINS, CUP~BS AND GUTTERB AND ACQUIEING AND IMPROVING <br /> CERTAIN REAL ESTATE AND BUILDINGS IN THE SAID CITY, MAKING PROVISION FOR THE <br /> FOR~ OF SAID BONDS, AND FOR THE PAYMENT T~EREOF" <br /> <br /> 58-337 - The Mayor presented Mr. Albert Teich, representing the Jnnior Chamber of Com- <br />merce of Norfolk, who spoke relative to an educational survey to be conducted under the direction of the Federal <br />Department of Health,Educa$ion and Welfare, and requested the Council ~o write a letter expressiong their willing- <br />ness to co-operate in the survey. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Bartlett that the agenda be amended to include this item was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bartlett that the Council take formal action :and direct the Mayor as <br />President of the Council to write a letter similar ~o that written by Mayor Duckworth of Norfolk, that will ac- <br />complish the purpose of Mr. Teich's request, was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
