<br /> WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia h~s caused to be appointed a Commission

<br /> V~EREAS, The American Legion, Post 37, Portsmouth, Va. feels that such observ-
<br /> ance is ~n good order and of local and topical interest;

<br />Nomad Lodge No.500, Brotherhood of R~lway and Steamship Clerks:

<br /> 'WttEP~A.S, the Norfolk and Western and Vir~lni~'Railroad Stockholders will meet
<br /> during the month of April, , 1959, to vote on ~ proposed merger between these two
<br /> Railroads; and
<br /> WNEREAS, the Norfolk and Western and Vir~znian Railroads have petitioned the Infer-
<br /> state Commerce Commission for approval of such a merger; and
<br /> W]tEREAS, the planned mer~er will resdlt in a grea~ reduction in taxes for the State
<br /> of Virginia as well as our citie~ and counties, and
<br /> WHEREAS, the planned merger will greatly reduce the.buying power zn our~ City due to
<br /> this reduction in employment; and
<br /> WHEREAS, this merger between these two =railroads will no doubt affect the employees
<br /> of other railroads in this area; and be it further
