<br />Homes, Hedges Manor, Mayflower Park, Stewart Manor, Park Manor, Pine Acres, Elizabeth Manor, Holly Point, Pine-

<br /> "The people~ Of the area of Norfolk Couilty to be armexed on December 31 are
<br /> very grateful to the Council and to the S~hool Board for the prompt action resulting in providing for im-
<br />mediate representation on the ~ortsmouth City School Board.
<br />
<br /> Under the plan adopted, the Cradock, Highland Park, Academy Park, Highland
<br />Biltmore and Cavalier-Manor have been added to District B of the City School system and is entitled to one
<br />school beard member to be appointed by the Council in the near future.
<br />
<br /> Our section of the annexed area is very fortunate in having two outstanding
<br />citizens whose names will be presented -- one of .which you will c~oose to represent the people of the annexed
<br />area on the School Board. Either of these, I am sure, will serve the community and the City in an excellent
<br />manner. I am here, however, to point out to you some of ~he many special qualifications which ~r. R~chard T.
<br />Daughtrey possesses and urge that he be appointed to the School Board. ~y reques~ ~s supported by the repre-
<br />sentatives of the various P T A's in 'the area and also by most of the active organizations interested in the
<br />future welfare of our City school system. Mr. Daughtrey's quslifications are as follows:

<br /> (1) He is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College. --
<br />(2) He is a resident and property owner in the Cradock community and has been-active
<br /> ia the PTA affairs in three of the area schools and is at present vice president
<br />~ of Cradock Hi PTA, He has two children now attending school, one in Cradock J. Hi
<br /> and the other in Cradock Hi School.
<br />(3) Mr. Daughtrey has been active in the field of education in the pas~ 2~ years and
<br /> has nineteen years experience as s classroom teacher. Prior ~o the war, he was
<br /> a teaeher and athletic coach at Cradock Hi. For ten years- following the war, he
<br /> wa s a member' of the Norfol~ Naval Shipyard A~prentice School and"at pre'sent
<br /> is training supervisor a~ the Naval Ammunition Depot at St. Juliens Creek.
<br />(4) Mr. Daughtrey is a veteran of ~0rld ~ar II and served three year~ in the China
<br /> Burma and India Field of war. He. is a~ present a majbr ~in ~the active Army reserves
<br /> of the Selective Service system.
<br />(5) He is a Junior ~arden of the Vestry of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cr'adock, and
<br /> teaches the adult Bible Class.'
