At a re~ulaE meeting -of the _City Council, he.ld :on October llth, 1~60, there were present

<br />R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, W. R. Breedlove, W. T..Leery, R.B. Seward,
<br />George R. Walker, H.~E. Weiseman., A.P. Jehnson~$r., City Manager, and
<br />J,S. Livesay, Jr., City Attorney.

<br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Walker.
<br />
<br />Minutes of regular meeting held on September 27~h, 1R60 were read and approved.
<br />
<br />The following commuaications from the City Manager were read:
<br />
<br /> 60-315 - "Attached hereto is a report concerniag the drainage condition at Seventh Ave.
<br />and Western Branch Road, as requested at the previous Council meeting." --
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Breedl0ve that the report be received and that the handling of the matter
<br />left to the discretion of the City Manager.
<br />
<br /> S~stltute motion of ~&r. Walker that , in view of the fact that the curbs and gutters are
<br />already in the program, the City Manager continue the investigation and submit a finsl recommendation.before the
<br />Council takes action on the improvements suggested, was lost, there being nosecond.
<br />
<br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Breedlove's motion was adopted, and by the following vote:
<br />

<br /> 0-3 6 - I recommend an appropriation of $30,000.00 be placed on
<br />installation of fire alarm central office equipment. This is necessary to comply with the standards of the Nation~
<br />al Board of Fire Underwriters and will give tile Oity-~a modern fire' alarm system. It is our desire to proceed
<br />with this installation in order that we might request the National Board of Fire Underwriters to make a survey of!
<br />P6rtSmout]~3-in order that we can improve our rating.
<br /> If our rating is improved, the savings to the taxpayers will-mo~e~ %hen~ 0~f~et
<br />the cost of this equlpment~ ~-

<br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove to approve on first reading an apprepriation of $S0;000.00 for
<br />said purpose, was adopted, without dissenting vote; ~
