Livesay, Jr., City Attorney~ <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Barnes. <br /> <br />read: <br /> <br />60-351- The following Notice of Zoning hearing and letter from the Plau~Ling Commission were <br /> <br /> "Pursuant to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, Notice is hereby, given that a <br />Public Rearing will be held at 7:30 P~M., on December lath, 1960, in the Cou~ucil Chamber, Municipal Building, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, on the following: <br /> <br /> 54-60 - The application of Dr. James W. Rolley, Jr., to rezone property located <br />on the northeast corner of Stratford Drive and Taft Drive, fronting ~pproximately ~5 feet on Stratford Drive <br />by approximately 100 ft. deep. Lot 476, Victory Park. Application to rezone from ASingle Fsmily Dwelling Dis- <br />trict to E-1 Transitional District. <br /> <br />Recommendation of <br />Planning Commission- <br /> <br />Under the proposed zoning ordinance, Dr. Rolley would bs allowed to use a small <br />portion of his house for an office if he so desired; therefore, we do not feel it <br />practical to create a spot zoning in this area. The Planning Commission recommends <br />that this application he denied. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove ~o concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commission <br />to deny this application was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 55-60 - The application of Charles E. Russell Company, Inc., to rezone proper~y <br />beginning approximately 560 ft. west from the northwest corner of Chowan Drive and Route 58, thence approxi - <br />mutely ZOO ft. fronting on Route 5~, thence northeast 6?Sft., tt~euce s~utheast approximately 1SS ft., thence <br />southwest approximately 590 ft. to point of origin. Application to rezone from A Single Fami!yDwelling Dis- <br />trict to G Commercial Business District. <br /> <br />Recommendation of <br />Planning Commission- <br /> <br />The Planning Commission felt this would conform with the proposed zoning, and <br />therefore recommends that this application ~be approved, subject todediention of <br />20 ftc along Route 58. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Breedlove to concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commis- <br />sion to approve this application on first reading, was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br /> 5S-60 - The application of Mrs. E.B Gordon. to rezone proper~y located on the <br />northwest corner of Elm Lane and Ropi Court, fronting 100 ft. on Hopi Ceurt bY 120 ft. on Elm Lane. Lot 1. Ap- <br />plication to rezone from A Single Family Dwelling District to F Local Business District. <br /> <br />Planning Commission- <br /> <br />This would establish a spe~ zone in an area that is all >:Si~gle family; therefore, <br />the Planning Commission recommendS~lhat this application b~ denied. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commission <br />deny this application was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 5T-60 - The application of A.V. Roesel to rezone property beginning at the south- <br />wes~ corner of Old Suffolk Boulevard and City Park Avenue extended, thence southerly 17S..02 ft. along City.Park <br />Ave. extended, thence westerly 19~.43 ft., thence northerly-l~S.S1 ft., thence, easterly along Old Suffolk Boule~ <br />yard 211.84 ft. ~o point of beginning. Application to rezone from A Single F~aily Dwelling District to F <br />Local Business District. <br /> <br />Recommendation of <br />Planning Commission- <br /> <br />A representative of an oil company requested that this be rezoned for use as a <br />service station; however, the requested zoning would not conform to the proposed <br />zoning of the area; therefore, the Planning Commission reco~mmends that this appli- <br />cation be denied. <br /> <br /> Clyde ~W.
