Barnes. <br /> <br /> Minutes'of regula~ meeting held on March 14th, 1961 and called meetings of March 16th, <br />1961 and March 21st, 1961, were read and approved. <br /> <br /> The following rep~s, from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> ' 61-8,0 - "I submit ~he ~tt~ched ordihance and recemm~d k't be pia~e8 ~n first ~ading. <br />The vestibule and s~eps of Trinity E~iscbpal ~hurch-encroach upon the sidewalk of ~0urt ~t. app~ekimately five <br />feet at the pre~e~t',~i~3e~ The Chu-~ch ~ashad pt,an~ prepared in connection with renovations of the building <br />and the vestibule and steps must be reconstructed, wnzch will requz e an encroachment of approximately 5.75 ft. <br /> The Council mus~ pass'this ordinance before -the Building Official's office can <br />issue a building permit. <br /> <br /> On motion or'Mr. Barnes, the following ordinahce was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote; <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO PER~IT THE ENCROACHMENT OF TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH UPON THE <br /> SIDEWALK OF THE WEST SIDE OF COURT ~TREET, AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH HIGH STREET" <br /> <br /> 61-81 - "I submit the attached agreement between th~ Atlantic Coast Line Railroad end <br />the City of Portsmouth and recont?end tha~ the p~oper, city official be authorized zo sign. I find that the Church acquired this property by deed <br />dated January 5th, 196~i-' By abatement #10~3 the Commissioner of the Revenue relieved all of the 1961 assessment, <br />accordingly, there are no taxes due on the proper~y and no action of City Council is required. Kirby, who made the reques~ for the church, be so notified, was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 61- 53 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at the last regular meetin <br />was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO LEASE PORTSMOUTH STADIUM FOR THE PLAYING OF PROFESSIONAL <br />BASEBALL DURING THE 1961 SEASON, WIT~ OPTIONAL RENEWALS FOR THREE AD - <br />DITIONAL SEASONS, TO THE TIDEWATER TIDES BASEBALL C~.UB, A DIVISION OF THE <br />WILLIAM B. MACDONALD, JR. CORPORATION" <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Breedlove, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, .Barnes, Breedlove, Leery, Seward, Walker, Weiseman <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 61-60 - Motion of Mr. Barnes to go into the election of ~wo m~mbers to the Minimum <br />Housing Board, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes that Shirley Hanbury and R. L. Sweeney be elected to the Minimum <br />Mousing Board, for a period of four years, was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. <br /> (Mr. Hanbury's term expiring December 31st, 1963 and Mr. Sweeney's on December 3lQ' i964.~) <br /> <br /> 61-60 - Motion of Mr. Breedlove to go into the election of two Trustees to the Cemetery <br />Perpetual Care Fund was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Barnes nominated Mr. Weiseman and Mr. Seward <br />Mr. Weiseman nominated Mr. Barnes and Mr. Seward. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Breedlove, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Weiseman and Mr. Seward were elected Cemetery Fund Trustees, and <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />1st vacnncy - <br /> <br />For Mr. Weiseman - Smith, Barnes, Breedlove, Leery, Seward, Walker <br />For Mr. Barnes Weiseman <br /> <br />2nd vacancy - <br /> <br />For Mr, Seward Smith, Barnes, Breodlove, Leery, Walker <br />For Mr. Barnes Weiseman <br /> <br /> Mr. Seward abstaining <br /> <br /> <br />
