July 31st, 1961 At a special meeting of the City Council, held on. July 31st~ 1961 there were present: R. Irvine Smith, C. S. Atkinson, Jack P. Baches, W. T. Leafy, George R. Walker ~ P. Johnson, Jr., City.Manager, J.. S. Livesay, Jr.., City Attorney The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Smith The following call for the meeting was. read: "Please attend a called meeting of the Portsmouth City Council to be held Monday, July 31, 1961 at 8:30 P. M. to consider the following: (1) Election of two members to the Planning Commission (2) Election of Assistant City Attorney~ By order of the President." 61-217 - Motion of Mr. Barnes that the matter of the election of two members to the Planning Con~nission be removed from the table was adopted without dissenting vote. Motion of Mr. Barnes no go into the election of two members to the Planning Commission was mdopted without dissenting vote. Mr. Barnes nominated Carroll A. Mason. On motion of Mr. Atkinson, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Mason was elected a member of the Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Hunter G. Webb, which term expires May 31st, 1963 and by the following vote: Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Leary, Walker Nays: None Mr. Atkinson nominated C. Louis Knight. On motion of Mr. Leafy, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Knight was elected a member of the Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of C. S. Atkinson, which term expires on May 31st, 1962 and by the following vote: Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes,.Leary, Walker Nays: None 61-218 - Motion of Mr. Barnes to go into the election of an Assistant City Attorney was adopted without dissenting vote. Mr. Barnes nominated Michael k. Korb. Motion of Mr. Leafy no close the nominations was adopted. Vote being taken, Mr. IIorb was elected Assistant City Attorney and by the following vote: Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Leafy, Walker Nays: None On motion adjourned Approved - President City Clerk
