<br />read: "At its last meeting, November 13, 1962, the Portsmouth Democratic Executive Committee
<br /> voted favorably on a resolution that a letter be sent to the Portsmouth City Council stating that the Committee
<br /> approves the use of voting machines such as are now in use ~n the cities of Norfolk and South Norfolk and
<br /> recommends that the City Council consider the installation of similar machines to expedite and modernize voting
<br /> procedures ~n the City of Portsmouth."

<br />62-309 - The following resolutio~ adopted by the City of Dunedin, New Zealand was read,

<br /> RESOLUTION -"That, having advis.ed the American Municipal Association that this City of
<br />Dunedin, New Zealand, is interested in establishing s link with a con, unity in the' United States of America in
<br />furtherance of the aims and ideals of the "People to People" programme, and having been duly notified that the
<br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, has been selected as the prospective Sister-City, the Dunedin City Council hereby
<br />resolves to acc~p¢ the invitation of the Council of the .City of Portsmouth as conveyed in the resolution adopted
<br />by the s~id Council st its meeting on 23rd October, 1962, so that the affiliation can be confirmed and steps taken
<br />to establish a relationship based on friendship and mutual respec~ on which can be built a better understanding
<br />of each other's customs, culture~d way of life."
