WHEREAS, the need for improvement in. our existing minimum housing standards is obvious <br />all concerned citizens of this city and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Minimum Housing Stand ards and the ~ity Planning Commission have <br />proposed vital zmprovements in the minimum housing ordinances for the City of Portsmouth; be it therefore <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that the Portsmouth Junior Chamber of Commerce endorse the passage of these <br />ordinances by the City Council and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that stringent enforcement of these ordinances be effected by the City and be <br />it further <br /> RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Board of Minimum Mousing <br />Standards, the City Planning Commission, the City Manager and the City Council of Portsmouth." <br /> <br /> On motion of M~. Knight, the resolution was received with thanks and referred for <br />consideration when this mat~er comes before the Council. <br /> <br /> 63--9---~h~ foltewi~n~ resolution from the Republican Party - Portsmouth City Committee, was <br />presented, and on motion of Mr. Knight, referred to a conference: <br /> <br /> "~/4EI{EAS the voting machine has proved to be a satisfactory, efficient, and essentially safe <br />menus of tabulating the ballots by years of service in many political subdivisions, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS advantage should be taken of anything which will increase the speed and accuracy <br />of determining the wishes of the electorate and make it easier and quicker for them to exercise their right and <br />responsibility zo vo~e; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, does not have; and has taken no action towards <br />the procurement of such voting machines, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS other correspondence directed to the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />urging the use of the above said machines has no5 resulted in any degree of positive action, and such lack of action <br />having been excused es a result of lack of funds, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the excuse of lack of funds has not prevented the planning of, or even the <br />appropriation for, other less necessary but more costly projects, THEREFORE <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED that the Portsmouth Republican City Committee, meeting in official session <br />on the 3rd day of January, 1963, requests the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, to reconsider the <br />question of the purchase and use of voting machines in the city, if necessary, on a t~iml basis in several <br />scattered precincts." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
