Minutes of regular meeting held on De~ember 10. 1963, were read and approved~ 63-293 - A-p~hlic hearing on change~ in the City Charter was held. No one-spoke in regard ~o the changes. The following reports from the City Manager were read: 63-294 - "I s~b~i% the at~ached ordinance and recommend .it be placed on firs~ seeding. This ordinance sets the real estate ~ax ra~e aE $3.00 pe~$100..00 and the persQnal pmoperEy ~ax rate at $2.75 pe~ $100.00. This establishes the rate for the year 1964." On motion of Mr. Dillon the following ordinance w~s approved on first reading: "AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AND COLLECTING TAXES ON REAL ESTATE, TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY AND MACHINERY .WITHIN THE ~I~I~ 'OF THE CITY OF PORTS~OU, T~, 'V ~I~qGINIA, FOR THE P'~RP0SE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR' THE SUPPORT OF THE GO~ER~F2~r A~D THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS ~AND. ~ PAY INTEREST AND~ SINKING F~ND~ ON THE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, t96~." 63- 9 - I submit thee attached ordinance ~nd ~.commend i~ b~ placed on firs~ reading.
