January 28, 1964 <br /> <br />V <br /> <br /> - 3-30, 3-31, 3-32, and 3-33, PROVIDING FOR THE .DISPOSITION, QUARANTINE, AND REPORT <br />: OF RABID DOGS REQUIRING '£~ VACCINATION AND CERTIFICATION T~EREOF OF ALL DOGS'OVER <br /> THE AGE OF FOUR MONTHS, PROVIDING FOR TH~ IMPOUNDING OF Lr~ACCINATED DOGS, AND <br /> 'PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR TRE VIOLATION OF SUCH SECTIONS" <br /> <br /> 64-15 - "I submit ~the attached agreement and recommend the proper city. gfficials be authorized to <br /> <br /> This amends our present agreement with the Portsmouth-Norfolk County Humane Society for the <br />keeping of dogs picked up by our game wardens. <br /> It changes the fees charged from $2.50 per day for five days To $3.00 per day for the first day <br />and $1.00 per day for the next four day~. <br /> Under this agreement, we will also sell-dog tags at the shelter." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon that the proper city officials be authorized to sign the agreement was <br />adopted, without dissenting vone. <br /> <br /> 64-16 - "This is to advise the council that it is necessary to appoint the members to the <br />Citizens' Advisory Committee under the ordinance adopted at the last council meeting. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Atkinsou to refer to a conference of the Council was adopted, without dissenting <br /> <br /> 64-17 - The City Manager stated that he had been advised it would be neeessary for the Council to <br />hold a public hearing on the request of the Police Departmen~ to the legislators to eliminate the six months residenoe <br />requirement for entrance into that Department. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr; Dillon that the public hearing be held on February llth,1964, was adopted, <br />withouf dissenting vose. <br /> <br /> UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br />64-1 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading st last meeting, was takeh up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SUBSECTION (i) OF SECTION 5-7 OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE <br />OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1961, RELATING TO MINIMUM ~EQUIRED REAR YARD IN RESIDENTIAL R-75 <br />AND R-75~S DISTRICTS" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Dillon, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes. Dillgn, Ea~tes, Knight, ~e~ry .. <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />64-1 - The following ordinance, approved on first feeding st last ~eeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SUBSECTION (g) OF SECTION 5-8 OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE <br />OF ~THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH~ 1961, RELATING TO MINIMUM REQUIRED REAR YARD IN <br />RESIDENTIAL R-6OAND' R-60-A DISTRICTS" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Eastes, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Dillon. Eastes. Knight, Leery <br /> Nay s: None <br /> <br /> 64- - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Recreation <br />Advisory Board wes adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Barnes nominated Burrell R. Johnson of 1156 Melvin Drive. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Dillon to close the nomInations was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mote being taken, Mr-. ~ohnson was unanimously e~ected to the Portsmouth Recreation Advisory Board <br />to fill the unexpired term of Fenton Vaughan, which expir~sJune 30, 1967. <br /> <br /> 64- - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of s member to the Portsmouth Library Board <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Eastes nominated Frank H. Wright of 1318 Augusta Avenue. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken~ Mr. ~ri~ht was elected to the Portsmouth Library Board to fill <br />term of Mrs. R. E. B. Stewart, Jr., which expires December 1, 1967 <br /> <br />the unexpired <br /> <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 64-15 - The following communication from tke~Portsmouth Recre-ation Advisory Board was read: <br /> <br /> "The Portsmouth Recrestion Advisory Board respectfully requests a meeting of City Council and <br />this Board to discuss requesss previously submitted for a Capital Improvements Budget for the Recreation <br />Department. <br /> <br /> <br />
