Korb, Jr.~ City Attorney.. <br /> Vice-Presi~ent Barnes in the Chair. <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr'.~Barnes. <br /> <br />station. <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br />T~e fo~lowiqg reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br />64-179 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend-it be placed on first reading. <br />This changes the voting place at the Cradock Fime Station ~o the communzzy building behind the fire <br /> <br />This has been requested and recommended by the electoral board." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Leafy, the following ordinsnce was approved on first reading, without dissenting <br /> <br /> '~N ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 37;47-OF THE CODE .OF THE CITY OF~ORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 196~, TO <br />CHANGE THE VOTING PLACE FOR PRECINCT NUMBER ONE 'IN CRADOCK WARD TO THE-CRADOCK.COMNU3N!TY CENTER" <br /> <br /> 64-180 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br />This establishes a new ~ay scale for the fire and police department effective September 1, 1964. <br />I further recommend I be authorized to transfer }rom the salary and wage appropriation of <br />Sg00,O00..00 in the 1~64-1965 ~udget, the amount of $105,O00,00 ~o the fire and police departmentls appropriation <br />to cover these increases." ~ <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Dillon the following o~dinance was.sppmoved on first reading, without dissenting <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND A COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FIREMEN <br />AND POLICEME~ OF THE CITY". <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon to concur in t~e City Maaager?s recommendation to transfer $105,000.00 from the <br />Salary and Wage appropriation in the 1964-1965 budge~ ~o the Fire and Poliee Departments ~o cover salary increases <br />was adopted, without dissenting,vote. ~- <br /> <br /> 64-181 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br /> This establishes a new pay scale for all city employees other than fire and police to be effective <br />September 1, 1964. <br />I further recommend I be authorized to ~ansfer from the salary and wage appropriation of <br />sgoo,o00.O0 in the ~964-1965 budget the. amc. unroof $95,000.00 to the various sccounzs to cover these increases." <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br />OF THE CITY." <br /> <br />On motiom o~f Mr. Leafy, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without dissenting <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND A COMPENSATION PLAN FOR EMPLO~]fS <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Esstes to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager to transfer $95,000.00 from <br />the salary and wage appropriation in the 1964-1965 budget to various accounts, to cover salary increases, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-182 - "Bids were received Fa~y 22, 1964 for street-improvemen~ work in the Nicholsqn Street- <br />Victory Boulevard area of Cracock. <br /> The bids n~e as follow~: <br /> <br /> J. R. Ford Company, Incorporated $ 131~429..24 <br /> Birsch Construction Company 136,399.40 <br /> A. S. Bolling Company (storm & sanitary sewers only) 75,601.00 <br /> <br /> J. R. Ford Company being the low bidder, I recommend that the con~rac~ be awarded this firm. <br /> I further recommend the attached ordinance be placed on firs~ reading. This appropriates $150,000.00 <br />to cover this contract plus engineering fees and contingencies." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon to award the bid to J. R. Ford Company, the low Bidder, was adopted, without <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Lesry~[t~e following ordinance was approved on first reading: <br /> <br /> "A~ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $150,000.O0 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURPOSE <br />OF CONSTRUCTING CURBS, GUTTERS, STORM SEWERS AND STREET II~,ROVEMENTS IN CRADOCK" <br /> <br /> 64-183 -~'I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br /> This authorizes the Olive ~rsnch Annex Cemetery Corporation to establish s cemetery in the city <br />adjaceng to the present Olive Branch Cemetery. <br /> Attached hereto is ~ letter from Mr. J. S.
