This resolution shall take effect <br />upon ils adoptiod." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />98-103 <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance to amend Section 6-65 of the Code of the Ci~3/ <br />of Portsmouth to allow for the enforcement of No Wake Zone violations in <br />areas designated as such by the City Manager. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance to amend Section 6-65 of the Code of the 'City of <br />Portsmouth to allow for the enforcement of "No Wake Zone" violations in areas <br />designated as such by the City Manager. <br /> <br />PurDose and Need: <br /> <br />Section 6-65 of the City Code requires boaters to operate boats at speeds which <br />do not create a wake in areas designated as "No Wake-Zones." <br /> <br />The current code prohibits the creation of a wake in "any cove". <br /> <br />The term "cove" does not apply to the stretch of Water between Hospital Point <br />(Mile Marker Zero) and the southern end of the Elizabeth River, the area where <br />most Violations occur; <br /> <br />The proposed amendment would allow the City Manager to extend the "'No <br />Wake Zones" as needed. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />It is anticipated that additional fines w~ll be collected as a result of extendingl the <br />"No Wake Zone". <br /> <br />The maximum fine for violation of the "No Wake Zone" is $250. <br /> <br />1. MartinSmith-Rodden, 1731 Barron Street, spoke in support of enforcement of <br /> no wake zone violations. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTION 6-65 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF "NO WAKE ZONES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />96-104 <br /> <br />Adoption of a resolution authorizing the Hampton Roads Partnership to <br />receive all of the funds from the Regional Competitiveness Program for <br />Hampton roads, and approving the distribution methodology of the <br />Partnership as to how the funds are to be used. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Adoption of a resolution authorizing the Hampton Roads 'Partnership to receive all <br />of the funds from the Regional Competitiveness Program for Hampton Roads, and <br />approving the distribution methodology of the Partnership as to how the funds are <br />to be used, <br /> <br /> <br />
