November 29, 1965 there were present: At a called meeting of the City Council, held on November 29, 1965, R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, John L. Dillon, Burrell R. Johnsoq, W. T. Leafy, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager and M~ A. Korb, Jr., City Attorney. The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Smith. 65-507 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at regular meeting of Council on November 25, 1965, was taken up and read: "AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOK THE ACQUISITION OF~CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH UNDER EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 126 OF THE ACTS OF ASSEMBLY OF 1964, SAID PROPERTY BEING NECESSARY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A S~NIT;uRY SEWER ~ND PU~ING STATION" Motion of Mr. Barnes to amend the ordinance as follows, was adopted, without dissenting vote: of ordinance. "lst-Add the words ~to serve the National Guard Armory' to the caption 2nd-First paragraph to read as follows: 'WHEREAS, in co-operation with the Federal and State Governments, a new National Guard Armory is being constructed in and for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; and' 5rd-Second paragraph to read as follows: 'b~ER~AS, one of the obligations of the City of Portsmouth with respect to said building is the provision of all utility services, including sewerage facilities; and' 4th-To the third paragraph insert the following, after the word 'work': 'and occupancy of said National Guard Armory' On motion of Mr. Barnes, the ordinance, as amended, was adopted, and by the following vote: Ayes: Smith, Nays: None On motion adjourned. Barnes, Dillon, ~ohnson, Leafy Approved - President *** The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a called meeting of CounciI on Monday, November 29, 1965, at 2:00 p.m. ~o consider, on second reading, a condemnation ordinance for the installation of sewerage to the National Guard Armory site. By order of the President."
