November 29, 1965 <br /> <br />there wore present: <br /> <br />At a called meeting of the City Council, held on November 29, 1965, <br /> <br />R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, John L. Dillon, Burrell R. Johnso%, <br />W. T. Leafy, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager and M~ A. Korb, Jr., <br />Ci.~y Attorney. <br /> <br /> The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Smith. <br /> <br /> 65-507 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at regular <br />meeting of Council on November 25, 1965~ was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FO~ THE ACQUISITION <br />OF~CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />UNDER EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS PURSUANT TO <br />CHAPTER 126 OF TH]] ACTS OF ASSEMBLY OF 1964, <br />SAID PROPERTY BEING NECESSARY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION <br />OF A SANITARY SEWER AND PUMPING STATION" <br /> <br />without dissenting vote: <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Barnes to amend the ordinance as follows, was adopted, <br /> <br />of ordinance. <br /> <br />"lst-Add the words ~to serve the National Guard Armory' to the caption <br /> <br />2nd-First paragraph to read as follows: <br /> <br /> 'WHEREAS, in co-operation with the Federal and StateGovernments, <br />a now National Guard Armory is being constructed in and for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; and' <br /> <br />3rd-Second paragraph toread as follows: <br /> <br /> 'P~%IER~AS, one of the obligations of the City of Portsmouth with <br />respect to said building is the provision of all utility services, including sewerage facilities; and' <br /> <br />4th-To the third paragraph insert the following, after the word 'work': <br /> <br />'and occupancy of said National Guard Armory' <br /> <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Barnes, the ordinance, as amended, was adopted, and <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Dillon, Johnson, Leafy <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />*** The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a called meeting of Council on Monday, November 29, 1965, <br />at 2:00 p.m. to consider, on second reading, a condemnation ordinance for the installation of sewerage to <br />the National Guard Armory site. <br /> By order of the President." <br /> <br /> <br />
