November 29, 1965 there wore present: At a called meeting of the City Council, held on November 29, 1965, R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, John L. Dillon, Burrell R. Johnso%, W. T. Leafy, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager and M~ A. Korb, Jr., Ci.~y Attorney. The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. Smith. 65-507 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at regular meeting of Council on November 25, 1965~ was taken up and read: "AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FO~ THE ACQUISITION OF~CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH UNDER EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 126 OF TH]] ACTS OF ASSEMBLY OF 1964, SAID PROPERTY BEING NECESSARY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SANITARY SEWER AND PUMPING STATION" without dissenting vote: Motion of Mr. Barnes to amend the ordinance as follows, was adopted, of ordinance. "lst-Add the words ~to serve the National Guard Armory' to the caption 2nd-First paragraph to read as follows: 'WHEREAS, in co-operation with the Federal and StateGovernments, a now National Guard Armory is being constructed in and for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; and' 3rd-Second paragraph toread as follows: 'P~%IER~AS, one of the obligations of the City of Portsmouth with respect to said building is the provision of all utility services, including sewerage facilities; and' 4th-To the third paragraph insert the following, after the word 'work': 'and occupancy of said National Guard Armory' by the following vote: On motion of Mr. Barnes, the ordinance, as amended, was adopted, and Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Dillon, Johnson, Leafy Nays: None On motion adjourned. Approved - President *** The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a called meeting of Council on Monday, November 29, 1965, at 2:00 p.m. to consider, on second reading, a condemnation ordinance for the installation of sewerage to the National Guard Armory site. By order of the President."
