392 Ma_v 26, 1998 <br /> <br />98-130 Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Mr. Martin spoke on the success of the 114th Memorial Day Parade but <br />expressed concern that the Naval Shipyard Museum was closed, along <br />with most businesses downtown. Mr. Martin requested City <br />Management staff to encourage downtown businesses and the Naval <br />Shipyard Museum to oPen during special events. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley requested that management provide a report to Council in <br />the next thirty days on the coordination of City facilities and special <br />events. <br /> <br />98-131 Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />Helen Person, 1314 Green Street, stated that she has not received a <br />response to her E-911 complaint expressed at the May 12, 1998 Council <br />Meeting and her disapproval of a dispatcher asking the racial makeup of <br />an injured person. <br /> <br />· Mr. Oksman explained to Ms. Person that he had advised Council not <br /> respond to her comments due to her pending lawsuit against the City. <br /> <br />Raleigh Harsley, 2124 Peach Street, spoke in opposition to the apprOval <br />of variances in his neighborhood for structures in disrepair; specifically, <br />a house at Jefferson and Fayette Streets. <br /> <br />William Copeland, 2107 Staunton Avenue, spoke in opposition to the <br />City placing a condemnation notice on the building located at 1708 <br />Prentis Avenue where a youth center is located. <br /> <br />Rasherd Shabazz, 1708 Prentis Avenue, spoke in opposition to the City <br />placing a condemnation notice at 1708 Prentis Avenue and asked City <br />Council to delay condemnation. <br /> <br />5. J. Brewer Moore, 308 Bobby Jones Drive, spoke in opposition to the <br /> Commonwealth's Attorney's ruling on GRIP's request of the <br /> Commonwealth's Attorney to review a new position created several <br /> months ago. <br /> <br /> On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m. <br /> <br />Minutes prepared by: <br /> <br />Debbie K.
