September 27, 1966 At the present time, the ordinance permits taxicabs to operate with broken meters, with the permission of the P61ice Department, for a period of 72 hours. The proposedordinance will eliminate this provision and require taxicabs to be removed~ from operation immediately when the meters are inoperative." On motion of Mr. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, w~thout . disse~ting vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO ~MEND SECTION 34-15 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, RELATING TO TAXIMETERS" 66-216 - "I submit the attached ordinance and reco~nend that it be placed on fiyst reading. This ordinance changes the mame of Dinwiddie Street, between Clifford and Harrison Streets, to Fifth Street. This portion of Dinwiddie Street is south of the Elizabeth River Tunnel. The portion of the street to the north of the tunnel will remain Dinwiddie Street. This has been recommended by the Planning Commission." On motion of Mr. Eastes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without dissenting vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NA~ OF DINWIDDIB STREET BETWEEN CL] STREETS TO FIFTH STREET" 66-217 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it reading.
