September 27, 1966 <br /> <br /> At the present time, the ordinance permits taxicabs to operate with broken meters, with <br />the permission of the P61ice Department, for a period of 72 hours. <br /> <br /> The proposedordinance will eliminate this provision and require taxicabs to be removed~ <br />from operation immediately when the meters are inoperative." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, w~thout . <br />disse~ting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO ~MEND SECTION 34-15 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1961, RELATING TO TAXIMETERS" <br /> <br /> 66-216 - "I submit the attached ordinance and reco~nend that it be placed on fiyst reading. <br />This ordinance changes the mame of Dinwiddie Street, between Clifford and Harrison Streets, <br />to Fifth Street. This portion of Dinwiddie Street is south of the Elizabeth River Tunnel. <br /> <br />The portion of the street to the north of the tunnel will remain Dinwiddie Street. <br /> <br />This has been recommended by the Planning Commission." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Eastes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NA~ OF DINWIDDIB STREET BETWEEN CL] <br /> STREETS TO FIFTH STREET" <br /> <br />66-217 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it <br />reading. This appropriates $5,000 for the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus for the <br />Fire Department. <br /> <br /> It has been found that the present type masks used by the Fire Department are <br />not adequate for all types of fires. <br /> <br /> With this,appropriat&on we will be able to purchase sufficient masks to <br />equip each piece of apparatus, and we will meet the American I~Purance Association's requirements." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Eastes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $3,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPRO~MENT FUND FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OF SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS" <br /> <br /> 66-220'- "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend thht it be placed on first <br />reading. This appropriates $50,400 to complete the Alf J. Mapp Junior High School. <br /> <br /> Sufficient funds were not appropriated to cover four change orders involving <br />demolition of the old school ~uilding, test bor~gs, installation of dust collector system, and <br />installation of electrical circuit and wiring for Eearning Rescouces Center." <br /> <br /> <br />
