Brown, attorney, was adopted. <br /> Brown spoke in favor of the petition, asking that the property be rezoned to C-1. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, the ordinance was approved on first reading, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Bastes, Johnson, King <br />Nays: Smith, ~night <br /> <br />-NEW BUSINESS- <br /> <br />66-~95 - The following letter from the Portsmouth Area Beautification Council, was read: <br /> <br /> "The Executive Committee of the Portsmouth Area Beautification Council, speaking for the <br />Council, wishes to go on record in favor of action by the City of Portsmouth looking toward the <br />earliest possible screening from th~ public view of all junk yards and similar operations. It is our hope <br />that~the City mi~nt find it possible to move forthwith to have these necessary but unsightly businesses <br />screened. Without presenting ourselves as authorities in the proper course of action, we would feel <br />that such screening might possibl~ be a prerequisite to the securing of the normal business <br />licenses. <br /> May we ask that you give this matter attention at your earliest convenience." <br /> <br /> Motion ~ = <br /> or Mr. ~astes to receive thh letter with thanks and refer to the City Manager for study, <br />was adopted, without' dissenting vote. <br /> <br />66-294 - The following letter from the Director of Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular bi-monthly meeting of December S, 1966, the Citizens Advisory Committee <br />discussed the gubject of bus transit service at length, adopted the attached resolution and asked <br />that this action be called to your attention." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~!r. Barnes that the letter be received as information and referred to a conference for <br />further study, was adopted, without dis~senting vote. <br /> <br />66-295 - The following letter from the Director of Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on December 6, 1966, the City Planning Com~mission <br />pursued work on the reali~ment of Cherokee Road and resolved to recommend that a small residual <br />stub of the existing street be renamed "BAILEY PLACE" when the rebuilding project is-completed. <br /> Residents affected directly have been ~o~sulted and are in accrod with such action." <br /> <br /> <br />
