October 3. 1967 <br /> <br />At a called meeting of the City Council, held on October 3, 1967, there were present: <br /> <br />R. Irvine Smith, Jack P. Barnes, George Df Eastes, Burrell R. Johnson, Isaac W. King, L. L. Knight, <br />W. T. Leafy, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager, M. A. Kerb, Jr., City Attorney, and R. D. Ottavio, <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. King. <br /> <br />The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a called meeting of the City Council, in the Council Chamber at 7:30 P.M., <br />on Tuesday, October 3, 1967, to consider the issuance of bo~d~ for annexation. <br /> By order of the President." <br /> <br /> 67-291 - The following letter from the City 5~anager'was read: <br /> <br /> "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br /> This ordinance authorizes the issuance of $7,400,000.00 of general obligation bonds. The <br />purpose of this issue is to compensate the Cityof Chesapeake for public improvements in the <br />area to be annexed January 1, 1968. <br /> This will also cover necessary equipment needed to operate the City Government in the annexed <br />area. It is important that this ordirmnce be adopted as soon as possible as the law requireg <br />that this Stand for a period of thirty {30) days before any action can proceed towards the <br />financing for the a~e~ to be annexed." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without dissenting <br />vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF SEVEN MILLION FOUR HLrNDRED THOUSAND 457;400,000.00) <br />DOLLARS OF BONDS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, TO BE KNOWN AS GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS, <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FUNDS TO COS{PLY WITH THE ORDER ENTERED IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE <br />CITY OF CHESAPEAKE, ON OCTOBER 2, 1967, ANNEXING CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />EFFECTIVE JANUP~RY I, 1968." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />president <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
