December 26. 19~7 <br /> <br /> 67-591 - A notice from the Interstate Commerce Commission regarding the proposed <br />discontinuance of passenger trains, affecting service between Portsmouth and Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, was presented, and on motion of Mr. Barnes, referred to a conference. <br /> 67-592 - The Mayor stated, that he had had several requests from citizens, regarding the dog <br />situation here, asking that efforts be made to avoid killing of children by dogs. <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to the City Manager to investigate with the officials <br />resoonsible for the enforcement of the ordinances relating to dogs, and to report back to <br />the~ Council as soon as possible, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-393 - Motion of Mr. Knight that the City Council meet at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday morning, <br />December $0th, to pass on second reading the ordinance appropriating funds for payment to City <br />of Chesapeake for annexation, was adopted, without d~ssmnting vote. <br /> 67-394 - On motion of Mr. Johnson the following resolution was adopted without dissenting vote: <br /> "~EREAS, some areas of Virginia are strictly enforcing the "Sunday Blue La~vs" while <br /> others are not; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there are various interpretations of these laws throughout the state; and <br /> I~EREAS, these variances in enforcement and interpretation cause big disadvantages and confusion to <br /> merchants and citizens. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of.Portsmouth, Virginia, that it <br /> hereby recommends that the "Sunday Blue Laws" of Virginia be repealed in their entirety on the ground~ <br /> they are not enforceable in fairness to ali the citizens of Virginia. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be fo~$arded to each Delegate and Senator <br /> representing the City of Portsmouth in the General Assembly of Virginia." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
