During 1967, the average pick-up per warden was 508 dogs. -The picking up of
cats is extremely time consuming, as it is necessary in 90% of the cases to set a trap
and then the warden may have to visit that trap five or six times before making a catch.
The time required to investigate dog bites sometimes takes two or three
days, and .if it is necessary that the dog be quarantines,, the wardens have to make
periodic checks to insure that the o~mer is complying with the City Code. Each morning
the three game wardens are required to check certain ~cBools where dogs are known to gang
up. Gangs of dogs roaming the street are most difficult to cat&n, as they are half wild
and many times, it takes all three wardens to eliminate one gang.
Another time consuming function of the game warden is the issuing of a summons
for a person who does not comply with the law. During 1967, the wardens issued
191 summons. In each of these cases, the issuing warden ~ad to appear in court as a witness.
68-25 - ~]e following letter from '.Bi. Ellis was read, and on motion of Mr. King,
referred to the City Manager.

"This letter is in reply to work done in 3500 block of Nelson Street on the 17th of January.
I was really dominated by the bact that so little was done. The complete block was not done on
either side of the street. One side had two ears on it. The side on which I live, could have
been done the same all the way. The whole length of Nelson Street is about 5 blocks. From 5400
to the west end wasn't touched and please remove those railroad ties on the east end of Nelson Street
