Jones, Deputy City Treasurer was read: <br /> <br /> "Herewith is a list of delinquent Personal Property Taxes for the year 1967 to be furnished you as <br />required by the City Ordinance." <br /> <br />On motinn of Mr. Smith, received as information. <br /> <br /> 68-232 - The following letter from the Superintendent of Schools was read~ <br /> <br /> "The School Board at its regular June meeting adopted a resolution requesting the.Ci~ty Council to <br />appropriate funds to defray the costs of the following: ~ <br /> <br />I. Construction of the new junior high school on the Merrifields site <br /> <br />II. Additional classrooms <br /> *Hodges Manor Elementary-8 <br /> *Brighton Elementary-10 <br /> Westhaven-10 <br /> <br />$2,000,000 <br /> <br />$ 255)000 <br /> 265,000 <br /> 275,000 <br /> <br /> TOTAl $2,795,000 <br /> <br /> *This resolution amends Item 1 of the resolution adopted by the Board in March, and transmitted to <br />Council on Mar~ 22, 1968." ' <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, referred to the City Manager. <br /> <br />68-233 - The following letter from C. P. Snodgrass was read: <br /> <br /> "Accept this as my resignation as a Commissioner of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority. <br /> <br />This resignation is effective immediately." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King to accept the resignation with regret and that the City Clerk write Mr. Snodgrass <br />a letter, thanking him for his services on the Authority, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King t~ refer the matter of filling the vacancy on the Authority to a conference of <br />Council, was adopted. <br /> <br />68-254 - The following letter from the Planning Director was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on July 2, 1968, the City Planning Commission unanimously resolved to <br />reaffirm its recommendation that municipally owned lands in Pinners Point be declared~su~plusand sold for <br />industrial development in connection with the several programs underway in that area. <br /> <br /> Specifically the Planning Commission was a~ked by the Portsmouth Industrial Foundation to review the <br />following parcel of property owned by the city: Beginning 15 feet east of the intersection of the center- <br />line of Lee Avenue with the north right=of-way line of Wesley Street; thence east approximately 105 feet; <br />thence north approximately 500 feet; thence $ 1S~ W 609.5 feet; thence S 450~ 17' W 13.7 feet to the poin~ <br />of origin. <br /> <br /> As in earlier cases, the Planning Commission s action is subject to retention of Utility easements deemed <br />necessary. In this case, the major 48" sewer force main must <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that the City Manager be authorized to advertise the property for sale was adopted, <br />without dissenting vote. ' <br /> <br /> 68-Z$5 - "We, members of the Board of Directors, Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club, Inc. will <br />appreciate if you would amend the ordinance prohibiting the sale of beer on Sunday to exclude private clubs <br />such as ours." (Signed C. Thomas Scott, and others) <br /> <br /> On motion, referred to the City Attorney, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-236 - The following letter from Dr. James W. Holley was read: <br /> <br /> "May I take this opportunity to submit my resignation as a member of the <br />It is regrettable that prevailing circumstances prevent my continued association with the ARthority. <br /> <br /> The past two years have been most gratifying, and I trust that I have,in some small way contributed to <br />the growth of the Authority. <br /> <br /> Please convey to the other members of the Authority my best wishes, and continued success in this <br />necessary endeavor." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to receive the resignation with thanks and that the City Clerk write Dr. Holley, <br />expressing the appreciation of the Council for his services on the Authority, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King to refer the matter of filling the vacancy on the Portsmouth Parking Authority to <br />a cmnference of Council, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 68-237 - Report on the audit by the State Auditor of Public Accounts of the office of the Clerk of the <br />Hustings Court for the calendar year 1967 was presented 5y the City Clerk, and on motion of Mr. Smith, <br />received as information. <br /> <br /> <br />
