July 22. 1~68 At a called meeting of tho City Council 5eld on July 22,1968, there were present: Jack P. Barnes, George D. Hastes, James ~. ~olley, Burrell M. Johnson, Isaac W~ King, R. Irvine Smith, Raymond Turner, A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manage~, M, A. Ko~ Jr., City Attorney. The meeting was opened with prayer by Mr. King. /~he following call for the meeting was read: "You are requested to attend an organizational meeting of the City Council, in the Council Chambers at 7:50 P.M. on July 22, 1968.~ By order of three members of the Council.~ The Mayor appointed M. A. Korb, Jr., City Attorney as temporary Chairman. 68-259 - The City Attorney made the followthlg ~tatement: "Tt appears that the original organizational meeting may bare been held improvidently and it is there- fore on the advice of the City Attorney that this second meeting is being held, so that there will be no question as to the legality of further actions of this Council." 68-259 - The Chairman asked for nominations for Mayor. Mr. Hastes nominated Jack P. Barnes. Mr. Turner nominated R. Irvine Smith. On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Barnes was elected Mayor, and by the following vote: For Mr. Barnes - Barnes, Haste~, Johnson, King. For Mr. Smith: - P~olley, Smith, Turner. 68-2~9 - The Chairman asked for nomination for Vice May~r. Mr. Holley nominated George D. Hastes. Mr. Smith nominated James W. Holley. On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Hastes was elected Vice Mayor, and by the followin~ vote: For Mr. Hastes - Barnes, Hastes, Holtey, JoPmson King, Turner. For Mr. Molley - Smith. On motion adjourned. APPROVED -
