0ctoher 8, I968 That the Portsmouth City Attorney and Kaufman, 0berndorfer and Spainhour, special legal counsel for th City of Portsmouth, be and hereby are authorized and empowered to take such legal actions in the n~me and behalf of the City of Portsmouth as they may deem advisable for the purpose of prO~ecting and defending the interests of the City of Portsmouth under said contract of March $0, 1920 and of sus- taining the position in regard thereto taken by the Council of the City of Portsmouth in its resolution of March 12, 1968 and herein reaffirmed. Adopted by fl~e Council of the City of Portsmouth, V~rginia, at a.meeting held on Oct0ber 8, 1968. Mr. Smith nominated the following to succeed themselves on the Commission: Charles D. Lane, Carroll A. Mason and Norman Olitsky. Motion of Mr. King to close nominations was adopted. gore being taken, the three nominated w~re elected, without dissenting vote. 68-537 - Motion of Mr. Holley to go into the election of a member to the Naval Shipyard Museum Board was adopted. Mr. King nominated Admiral Robert D. Powers. On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Admiral Powers was elected a member of the Nava~kShipyard ~useum Board to fill the unexpired term of Judge R. F. Mc34urran, resi~ned, which term expires on May I, 1B69. 68-538 - Motion of Mr. King to go into the election of a member to the Parking Authority was adopted, without dissenting vote. Mr. Smith nominated Leon Lasting, to fill the fa~A~y created by the resignation of D. W. Culpepper. On motion of Mr. ~hnson, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr. Lasting was elected a member of the Parking Authority, for a term ending May 1, 1972, without dissenting vote. 68-559 - Motion of Mr. Bastes to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Supplemental Retirement Board. Mr. Smith nominated Richard D. Ottavio. On motion of Mr. Bastes, nominations were closed. Vote being taken, Mr..O~tavio was elected a member of the Retirement Board, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation ~f Mr. Murden, which term expires on September 30, 1969, without dissenting vote. 68-540 - Motion of Mr. Turner to go into the election of members to the Charter S~udy Commission was adopted. Mr. Johnson nominated the following: A. C. Bartlett Stanley J. Bangel P. Stockton Fleming Judge John A. MacKenzie George Minor M.A. Korb, City Attorney Judge Donald H. Sandie Motion of Mr. King to close nominations was adopted. Vote being taken, those nominated were elected members of the Portsmouth Charter Study Commission. 68-541 - Motion of Mr. Bastes that the Council approve and heartily endorse the $81,000,000.00 Bond issue, recommended by the Governor, was adopted, without disssenting vote. 68-542 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that a study be made of a one hundred per cent city-financed project to provide a four lane highway from Churchland Bridge to Cedar Lane, was adopted, without dissenting vote.
