D. S~s & Son, Inc. was read: "We have forwarded our check this date to your treasurer ~ the ~o~t of $1,171.S0. This represents $1,110.20 Real Estate T~ on building at 28S0 A~line Boulevard for the Srd quarter plus penalty ~d interest of $61.10. Whereas ~e do not object to a reasonable amount of penalty added, we feel this mmount is entirely ~reasonable since it was merely overlooked by our booRkeeping department and being only eight days late. Your consideration of a partial rebate would be greatly appreciated." Motion of Mr. Turner to deny the request Was adopted, without dissenting vote. 68-SS7 - The following resolution ~a~ read, and on motion of Mr. Smith, unan~ously adopted: "A ~SOLUTION COP.{,~ENDING X. D. MURD~ FOR HIS ~RVICES TO ~ CITY OF PORTSMOUTH ~g, Mr. X. D. Murden has served~the City of Portsmouth for a period of S1 years; and ~Y~RBAS, during his tenure and as a result of ~%s ~idance ~d dedication, the Portsmouth Water Depart- ment has extensively increased the quality ~d qu~t~ty of the services rendered to the citizens of Portsmouth and I~{EREAS, the citizens of Portsmouth are deeply indebyed to Mr. X. D. ~rden for his diligence in their behalf from which they have greatly benefited. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ~SOLVED by the Co~cil of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, this 22nd day of October, 1968~ that the meank~g~nl contributions made by Mr. X. D. Murden during his m~y years of se~'ice to this City be acknowledged with sincere gratitude ~d appreciation; ~d BE IT FURTHER ~SOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. X. D, Murden, and that it be made a part of the oerm~ent records of the City." 68-S58 - Motion of Mr. Holley that the City M~ager prepare a long-r~ge plan for curbs ~d gutters for the entire city was adopted, without dissenting vote; 68-359 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that ~ immediate study and recommendation be made by the Plm~ing Commission, in conjunction with the City Atto~ey, as to how to separate apartments from R 60 ~d R 75 to present type of subdivision was adopted, without dissenting vote. 68-360 ~ Motion of Mr. Smith that Miss Cora Fitzgerald be given the privilege of the floor, was adopted. Miss Fitzgerald thanked the Council members for their co-operation with the pupils of the J~ior ~gh and High Schools of the City, in their observ~ce of National Education Week, by pe~itting the pupils to participate in the Council meeting. ~ motion adjourned. ~PROVED - {~President City ~Ierk
