Edward Whitaker was read: <br /> <br /> "It is with regret that so early after my appointment to the Portsmouth School g0ard, I find it <br />necessary to submit my resignation as a member of that Board, which I request to be made effective Novem~'er~!5, <br />1968. ~ <br /> <br /> I submit my resignation because of a new assignment in my ~inisterial work which will remove me from the <br />local community, therefore preventing my privilege to serve. My new location adh work will be with ~ew <br />Ministers & Missionaries Benefit Board of the American Baptist Convention with responsibility for the Northeast <br />Bection of the country~ and home base in Boston, <br /> <br /> For the short time I have been privileged to serve on the Board, it has been mn enriching experience, <br />and quite challenging, but most pleasant. I am grateful to the Honorable Members of the City Council and fellow <br />members of the School Board for %he opportunit~ to share in this area of work in our city. I shall mess the <br />rich fellowship with so mmny." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that the resignation be received with regret; that a letter be written Mr. l~itaker <br />and that the question of the vacancy on the School Board be referred to a conference of Council, was adopted, <br />without dissenting vote~ ~ <br /> <br /> 68-381 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that the City Manager investigate and report back to the Council regarding <br />requirements to have the City's zoning ordinances re-w~itten and brought up-to-date, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 68-582 - Mr. Johnson requested that the Council take action on his previous motion that the City Attorney <br />look into the question of requiring Councilmanic Candidates to pay a filing fee. <br /> <br /> 68-583 - Motion of Mr. Turner that a study of the ordinances regarding the gun situation, be ref6rred to <br />the City Attorney, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-384 - Motion of Mr. Smith that the matter of a study of the feasibility of an educational or school tax <br />be referred to the Tax Study Co~mission was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-585 - Mr. Barnes commented that he wished to thank Mrs. F. B.
