At a special meeting of the City Council, held at 5:SO P.M., on May I, 1969, there were present: <br /> <br /> Jack P. Barnes, George D. Eastes, James W. Hol!ey, Burrell R. JoS~nson, Isaac W. King, R. <br /> Smith, Raymond Turner, and J. W. Jones, Assistant City Attorney. <br /> <br /> 69-133 - The Mayor called the meeting for consideration of tSe Council on ordinance enforcing a <br />curfew. <br /> <br /> Chief of Police, Calvert Warren, spoke in regar~ to student walkDuts, demonstrations, threatened <br />violence and destruction. <br /> <br />The Assistant City Attorney presented the following ordinance: <br /> <br />"Fax~ ORDINANCE DECLARING TiIAT IT IS THE JUDGMENT OF THE COUNCIL THAT THERE EXISTS IN THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH AN I~,IINENT THR~,T OF CIVIL CO?,IMOTtDN OR DISTURBANCE IN TF~E NATURE OF A RIOT AND THAT <br />SUCiI THPEAT CONSTITO~ES A CL?EAR A~¢D PRESEB~ DANGER THEREOF AND TO PEOPLE /lAID PROPERTY WITHIN THE <br />CITY BaND EMPOWERING TI~ CHIEF OF POLICE TO REGUIX~TE, RESTRICT OR PROHIBIT ANY ASSEMBLY OF PERSONS <br />OR THE MOI~MEN~i' OF PERSO.X~S OR VEHICLES %~ITHIN %RE CITY OR ;uNY PART THEREOF." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Hastes, Hotley~ Johnson, King, Smith, Turne~ <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br /> ~res ident <br /> <br />Deputy City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
