The Chair requested Mr. Vann to submit to the City Clerk a list of streets needing curbs and sidewalks, in the area referred to, before the conference on the subject which will be held on December tS~h. 69-406 - ~te following petitions from residents in South Truxtun and in the Brighton section of South Portsmouth were read: "We, lawful taxpayers of the City of Portsmouth, State of Virgi-ia are requesting cu~ing and sidewalks for our residential area of the city, South Truxtun, namely Manly Street. iN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto affixed our signatures, this llth day of NovegDer, 1969. Harvey, Sr., and others" "We, the undersigned, do hereby request the following improvements for Marshall Avenue located in the Brighton section of South Portsmouth: (1) Storm drainage and curbing for the entire length of the street. J~ Vann" Motion of Mr. Holley to refer to a conference on the subject was adopted, without dissenting vote. 69-407 - The rollow~n~ letter from the Director of Planning was read: "At its regular monthly meeting on December 2, 1969, the City Planning Commission publicly acted upon the following street closure petitions, and in each case resolved to recommend closure, subject to retention of any utility or drainage easements deemed necessary: ~. S-69-13 Pptition of Portsmouth School Board, by. City Attorney James Jones, to vacate a portion of FitzgeralJ Street, beginning at the south side of Fitzgerald Street (formerly Manly Street) and extending south 100 feet. S-69,14 Petition of Attorney Donald Kilgore, for the PortsmouthRedevelopment and Housing Authority, to close numerous streets in the Nor-~hside ~1 Urban Redevelopment Project. Already this VA. R-$9 project,plan had been approved bY ~ Planning Commission~and the City Council, and closure of the following street segments was merely a tecnn~calxty. On motion of Mr. Eastes, referred to the City Attorney, without dissenting vote. 69-408 - The following letter from George R. 1{alker was read: "PleaSe place my name on the agenda for the City Council meeting of December 9~ 1969 to address the Council on the sub~ect of traffic on Crmvford Street." Mr. Walker spoke requesting that the speed limit on Crmtford Parkway be increased from 25 miles to 35 mile per ~ Motion of Mr. Smith that the speed limit be mhanged as requested hy Mr. Walker, was adopted, without dissenting vote.
