Ms.v 121 1970 <br /> <br /> 70-205 - ~e following letter from the Business and Professional Group of the Women of Trinity Church <br />was read: <br /> "A resolution was adopted by the Business and professional Group of The Women of Trinity Church at its <br />regular meeting Monday, May 4, 1970, reading as follows: <br /> WHEREAS, tlne courthouse on the corner of Court and Hlg~ Streets has been declared an historical lan&mark <br />the Virginia State Landmarks Commispion, we, the Business and Professimnal Group of The Women of Trinity <br />do submit this petition asking that every effort toward ways and means of restoring this h~storic building for <br />a cultural and ~rt center to serve a useful purpose for the citizens of Portsmouth be made. <br /> The Portsmouth Public Library is certainly a fine example of how the City of Portsmouth converted the old <br /> post office building into a most useful and beautiful library that the people of Portsmouth are proud of. <br /> %he courthouse is not only structurally beautiful but valuable historically to the City of Portsmouth, <br /> and also decared a valuable landmark by the State of Virginia; and we feel it also can be put to a useful <br /> purpose for the citizens of our city." <br /> b~otion of Mr. Smith to refer this communication to the file on the subject, was adopted, without dissentin~ <br /> vote. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPRO\~D - <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
