March 23. 1971 <br /> <br />71-127 - The following letter was received from P. H. Boyette, Jr., was received: <br /> <br /> "I resFectfully request permission to speak at the Council meeting on March 23, 1971, <br />against Ordinance No. 1971-29 on swimming pools." <br /> <br />Mr. P. H. Boyette, Jr. spoke. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner that the City Attorney study the ordinance with~possibility of al- <br />terations and report back to Council before effective date. <br /> Raymond <br /> Substitute motion of Mro/Smith to repeal ordinance and that this motion serve as first <br />reading of repeal, was adopted, and by the £ollowing vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Holley, Johnson, Raymond Smith, Barnes <br /> Nays: trvine Smith, Turner <br /> <br /> 71-128 The following letter was received from Clinton A. <br />Citizens Committee: <br /> <br />Butler, Chairman, Park View <br /> <br /> "The members of the <br />for your recent decision <br />ject. <br /> <br />Park View Citizens Committee wishes to thank you and the City Counci <br />to request a Congressional Inquiry of the Park View Conservation Pro <br /> <br /> We support your decision i00%, and want to assure you that we will cooperate fully with <br />City Officials and any of the Congressional Representatives that you contact. <br /> <br /> As you know, this Committee has informed Senators William B. Spong, Jrt, Harry F. Byrd, <br />and Congressman William G. Whitehurst of our activities in this matter. Yon are more than <br />welcome to forward copies of this letter to anyone you desire. <br /> <br /> If it is not asking too much we would appreciate copies of any correspondence between <br />you and the Congressional Representatives for our records. This will show the residents of <br />Park View that the Leaders of Portsmouth are doing their part in our mutual responsibilities. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Turner, to be received as information and a copy of the letter sent to <br />Congressmen be forward to Park View Citizens Committee, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 71-129 - Motion of Mr. Turner to refer to the City Manager about autos being abandoned <br />or parked on city property an~ report back to Council, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 71-1S0 - Motion of-Mr. Raymond Smith to refer to City Manager and building inspector <br />off street parking in reference to church being built across from S. H. Clarke School, <br />First Street Baptist Church of Taylorsville, was adopted, without dissenting note. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
