Service, Architect, and Paul Merritt, <br />Developer. <br /> <br />Mr. King'moved for nominations to be'closed. <br /> <br /> Vote,being taken, Mr. Service and Mr. Merritt w:ere elected to the Zoning Study Commission* <br />for a two-year term of office, expiring June 22, 197S, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 71-282 - The following letter was received from Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing <br />Authority: <br /> <br /> "I am in receipt of your letter of June 14, 1971, regarding the possible extension of <br />operation time for the Merrimac Restaurant, which is located in our Urban Renewal Project <br />VA R-SS. ' <br /> <br /> The Commissioners and staff of this Authority have cooperated with ~he Caravas brothers <br />in everyway humanly possible and I am enclosing a copy of a letter which we sent to American <br />National Bank along with a~'copy of their reply, which illugtrat~s our efforts to assist the <br />Caravas brothers. You can see from the enclosed letter that American National Bank is anxiou: <br />to commence construction and that there is no way for the Authority to grant the requested <br />extension." <br /> <br /> On motion.or'Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Turner, to be received as information, was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes! Holley; Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 7t-283 ~ The following letter, including resolutiOn adopted, was received from the <br />Urban Renewal and Development Committe, Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce: <br /> <br /> "It is my pleasure to transmit the following resolution which was adopted by the Execu- <br />tive Committee of .the Por.tsmouth Chamber of Commerce for the Board of Diirectors at their <br />meeting June 9th~ <br /> <br /> 'Be ~it resolved that the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce commends tlhe City Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth for its proposed appointment of a committee for the study of the Zoning <br />Ordinance of the City of Portsmouth as a follow-up on the research repo!rt on the same subject <br />by Hammer-Green~-Siler Associates.
