Johnson, Chairman of the Western Tidewater <br /> Supervisors of Nansemond County, was adopted by the fol- <br /> <br /> Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br /> Nays: None ' <br />* See Resolution below <br /> 72-114 Motion of Mr. Raymond Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson that Council instruct <br />the City C.terR to write and send letter of commendation to Senator Moody, Delegates Schilitz <br />Manning, Gibson and Bryan, for their efforts in seeking financial assistance for the City <br />of Portsmouth during the recent General Assembly session and to invite these individuals to <br />receive these letters of commendation in ~erson at the next Council meeting, was adopted by <br />the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith Turner Barnes <br />Nays: None ' ' <br /> <br /> 72-11S - Motion of Mr. Turner and seconded by Mr. Holley, to have the Tax Study Com- <br />mission or the City Manager and City Clerk conduct a feasibility study of allowing relief <br />for the elderly of real estate taxes and this study to be conducted within thirty days, was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, <br />Nays: None <br />Abstaining: Irvine Smith <br /> <br />King, <br /> <br />Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br /> <br /> 72-116 - Motion of Mr. Turner and seconded by Mr. Holley that the Grants' Coordinator <br />to see -if funds may be made available to correct the inadequate drainage system imposed <br />upon Cavalier Boulevard and Greenwood Drive by the Federal Government during WWII, was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith Turner Barnes <br />Nays: None ' ' <br /> <br />On motion adjourned 9:42 P.M. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> dMayor <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />':A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ERECTION OF A TELEVISION T01~R IN THE VICINITY OF <br />THE CHESAPEAKE-PORTSMOUTH AIRPORT. <br /> <br /> ~FHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, VirginiJ <br />tha~ application has been made by the Hampton Roads Television Corporation to the Federal <br />Aviation Administration for permission to erect a television tower in the Shoulders <br />Hill section of Nansemond County, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of said tower at the location requested by the Hampton <br />Roads Television Corporation will constitute an additional hazard to the aircraft using <br />the Chesapeake-Portsmouth Airport and will increase an already hazardous situation caused <br />by existing television and radio towers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Chesapeake-Portsmouth Airport is presently extending airport runways <br />and facilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Chesapeake-Portsmouth Airport is a source of recreation to the citizens <br />of Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Nansemond County, Virginia, as well as a growing area-wide <br />industry. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that it strongly opposes the erection of any television tower of the characteristics <br />proposed by the Hampton Roads Television Corporation at the proposed site and that it <br />urges the Federal Aviation Administration to reject such request for permission to erect <br />said tower.'~ <br /> <br /> <br />
