August 7, 1972 The following letters received in favor of rezoning were read: Rev. Don Sheffield, Green Lakes Baptist Church "It is my understanding that you are currently considering a request by Walter E. Carter for building and operating a roller skating rink in the City of Portsmouth. I am familiar with the skating rink operated by Mr. Carter at Virginia Beach. I have been there with groups of young people from our church and on other occasions as well. It appears to me that he keeFs things well under control. The USO takes a group of servicement and women to the Plaza Roller Rink in Virginia Beach at least once a month. We have found that rink to be very well managed. I'm sure that Mr. Wakter B. Carter, owner, of the Plaza, would run ~e one ~n Portsmouth as well. I feel this would be one way to supply much needed wholesome recreation in Portsmouth.
