235 <br /> <br />~- February 26, 1974 <br /> <br /> Enclosed is a petition from Edgefield property owners and residents most directly <br />affected by this undesirable building. Also, some pictures of the building and surround- <br />ing land are enclosed. <br /> <br /> We trust that you will <br /> <br /> The following petition <br />Lane, Edgefield, was read: <br /> <br />see that our request receives <br />received from property owners <br /> <br />a fair and impartial hearing." <br />and residents on Craneybrook <br /> <br />"Authority Building Permit #2975-D dated July 20, 1972. <br /> <br /> The building cited above <br />for a period of one year only. <br />was granted. <br /> <br />was originally erected at <br /> However in October 1973 <br /> <br />this site as a temporary b~ildiBg <br />an extension of two more years <br /> <br /> We, the undersigned, request that you have <br />respect to this building and require the removal <br />able date for'the following reasons: <br /> <br />the two year extension rescinded with <br /> of this building at the earliest practic. <br /> <br /> 1. We find this building and tke sar~o~n4i~laa&_a_~ea~very objectionable in our <br /> neighborhood which is zoned R-tS0 - low density residential. We feel this type <br />and size of building has no place in or near an established residential area such as <br />Edgefield. <br /> <br /> 2. We feel this building and grounds and related activities have an adverse effect <br />on the value of our property. <br /> <br /> 3. We feel that this building is not within the intent of Section 504 of the City's <br />Building Code which states: 'A special building permit for a limited time must be ob- <br />tained before the erection of temporary structures such as construction sheds ....... <br />such structures shall be completely removed upon the expiration ~fthe t~me limit stated <br />in the permit.' <br /> <br /> Furthermore, we urn§ the Council to refer this matter to an impartial group, such <br />as the Planning Commission, for review and recommendation to the Council as to whether <br />the extension should be rescinded and building removed or ~he building should remain. <br />We feel that the Edgefield property owners adversely affected by this building and the <br />owner of the building will receiv,e~fair treatment from a groupSuc~ as the Planning <br />Commission, who are experts in matters pertaining to land use. Si~ned by WilliAm ~. <br />Moore, 5725 Craneybook Lane, an~ others" <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the matter to be referred to the <br />City Manager for area to be cleaned surrounding the building, was adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> Amendmen-t, to the motion.~r. ~Holley and seconded by Mr. Early, that the City <br />Attorney render an opinion todete~mine if the buildi-ng permit zs in violation, was ado <br />by unanimous ~ote. <br /> <br /> 74-87 - The following letter ~received from George F. Davis, Chairman, Municipal <br />Finance Commission, was read: <br /> <br /> "~he Municipal Finance~C~mm~s~ion at its monthly meetin~ held on January 9, 1974, <br />received a report from the Rev~n~e~Sharing Sub-Committee on requests for Revenue Sharing <br />Funds which included a request for a swimming pool in the Southsid~ a~rea to replace a <br />which was taken by the Crawford Street Connector. It is the understanding of this Com- <br />mission~that the United Fund 'h,a.s ap~proximately $15,000 for use towards the purchase of <br />land or construction cost for a swimming pool in the Southside Prentis Park area. <br />Since there is now m blance of approximately $318,000 of Entitlement IV Revenue Sharing <br />Funds which have not been committed (only recommended by management) this Commission <br />would like to make the following recommendation: <br /> <br />'We recommend that $100,000 <br />marked for the construction <br />summer of 1974.' <br /> <br />to Revenue Sharing Funds from Entitlement IV be <br />of a swimming pool in the Southside area by the <br /> <br />ear - <br /> <br /> In the event this recommendation meets with the approval of City Council, we further <br />recommend that this item be referred through the Recreation Director to the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission for selection of a site and proposal for operation. <br /> <br />We submit the above recommendations to you for your consideration and adoption." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Smith, to concur in the recommendation of <br />the Municipal Finance Commission. <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr, King, to be referred to the <br />Recreation Commission, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 74-88 - Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. King, that Burre~l R. Johnson to be <br />appointed as Chairman of the Sister City Program by the City Council. <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Smith, to be referred to the <br />City Atturney (appointment to Sister City Program), and report back at next meeting, <br />March 12, 197~, was adopted u~a~mous vote. <br /> <br />74-89 Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. King, that the Council meet in an <br /> <br /> <br />
