74-225 - The following report from the City Manager concerning temporary drainage
Harris Road between Nicholson Street and Reid Street was read:

"City Council, at its meeting May 28, 1974, received a petition from certain residents
of Cradock requesting curbs, gutters and street improvements on Harris Road between
Nicholson Street and Reid Street. I was directed to investigate methods whereby some
temporary relief might be afforded these residents unziI street improvements were made.

Because of shallow water service lines in this area, it is not feasible to use
open ditches for drainage. There is a iS-inch drain to Paradise Creek at the east end
of Reid Street. However, there are no ditches or drain pipe to carry run-off to this
outfall. An extension of the iS-inch drain along Harris Road from Reid Street to a iow
point at Phelps Place and Harris Road with catch basins is a solution to this problem.
However, it cannot be considered as a temporary solution; this, rather, would be a part
of the permanent requirement to solve this problem with curbs, gutters and street improve,
ments to be completed later.

This project would require an expenditure of approximately $12,000 which includes
560 feet of 1S-inch concrete pipe, three catch basins and one manhole. This also includes
engineering costs. This installation would be in accordance with the Master Drainage
Plan and monies expended at this time would not be wasted since this drainage line would
be required whenever full street improvements are made here.

Should City Council desire to have this drainage project constructed,
this work would have to be from bond proceeds. The City Engineer is of the
drainage in this area is necessary and should be given a high priority."
