32O <br /> <br />June 25, 1974 <br /> <br /> ~e ~ty Manager presented a report received from Director of Rubtic_l~orks regarding <br />Griffin Sf~aet. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Early and seconded <br />curb and gutter program under Revenue <br />to be advised of action taken. <br /> <br />by Mr. Smith, the matter to be referred to the <br />Sharing, was adopted by unanimous vote. Mr. Woodle <br /> <br /> 74-268 - The following letter received from Ms. Rosalyn B. Ellis, 6104 Arthur Avenue <br />was read: <br /> <br /> "I am requesting the street on West Harvey to be paved. It is unpaved and is in <br />bad ccndition. I am getting an excessive amount of dust from it. The construction <br />company is now using this street. I am getting all the dirt from it plus the traffic to <br />Recreation Center are all using this street. I am unable to be outside due to the dust. <br />My street number is 3607 West Harvey Street which is in the Portsmouth area off the <br />street of Arthur Avenue. <br /> <br /> I would like for this street to be paved. I would appreciate if this could be done <br />right away." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith and secended h¥ Mr. Wentz, to be referred to the City Manager, <br />was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 74-269 - The following request to speak received from S. L. Whitehead, President, <br />Tidewater Virginia Federal Employees Metal Trades Council: <br /> <br /> "I request to be on the agenda for the Council meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 1974. <br />The subject will be my letter to you of May 27, 1974." (Polgraph testing on municipal <br />employees) <br /> <br />Mr. Whitehead spoke. <br /> <br /> 74-27-0 -The following request to speak received from G~ A. Wermick, 3503 S~uth <br />Street: <br /> <br /> -I am requesting to appear before the City Council at the ne×t regular meeting on <br />June 25, 1974 pertaining to the recent real estate tax reassessment.- <br /> <br />Mrs. Wermick spoke. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith <br />for verification of data <br />vote: <br /> <br />and seconded by <br />card and report <br /> <br />Mr. Ear]y, to. be referred to the City Assessor <br />back to Council, was adopted by the following <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: Holley <br /> <br /> 74-271 - The following letter of resignation received from Dr. Robert W. Adams, <br />member of School Board, was read: <br /> <br /> "It is with regret that I must resign from the Portsmouth School Board at the <br />completion of my term of office. I have enjoyed worki~8 with the other members of <br />Board and with Dr. M. E. Alford and his staff. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> I wish to thank you for appointing me to the School Board and I hope at some subSequ~ <br />time I can again serve the City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Early and seconded by Mr. King, to accept the resignation of Dr. <br />Robert W. Adams with regrets and proper resolution be prepared, was adopted by unanimous <br /> <br /> 74-272 On motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Smith, the following resolution <br />was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE BUILDING OFFICIAL TO MAKE APPLICATION TO THE <br />BOARD OF STATE t~JlLDING CODE REVIEW FOR AN ADDITIONAL ONE YEAR EXTENSION <br />OF THE CURRENTLY EFFECTIVE CITY BUILDING CODE, PLUMBING CODE, GAS CODE <br />AND MECHANICAL CODE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 36-101 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA, <br />1950, AS .~MENDED. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 36-98 of the Code of Virginia, 19SO, as <br />amended, the State Board of Housing has adopter and promulgated a Uniform State Wide <br />Building Code and such building code will supercede certain building codes now in effect <br />in the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> W~BREAS, said codes which are presently effective and which will be superceded <br />by the adoption of said Uniform State Wide Building Code are as follows: the Southern <br />Standard Building Code, 1969 edition witkthe 1972 revision thereto; the Southern Standard <br />Plumbing Code, 1971 edition with the 1972 revision thereto; the Southern Standard Gas <br />Code, 1969 edition with the 1970 revision thereto; and the Southern Standard Mechanical <br />Code, 1973 edition, all of which as amended have been adopted by incorporation; and <br /> <br />Le <br /> <br />it <br /> <br /> <br />
