<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 1 OF PORTSMOUTH CITY ORDINANCE 1969-10
<br />PERTAINING TO THE CREATION AND COMPOSITION OF THE CRANEY ISLAND STUDY
<br />CO~ISSION."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Early and seconded by Mr. Holley, the ordinance was adopted, and
<br />by the following vote:
<br />
<br />Ayes: Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Davis
<br />Nays: None
<br />
<br /> 74-304 Mr. J. S. Campbell, Director of Recreation, again submitted a statistical
<br />report requested by City Council regarding the cost and locat~nn of swimming pools in the
<br />city.

<br />NEW BUSINESS

<br /> 74-320 - The following resolutions, commending former Councilmen Burrell R. Johnson,
<br />Isaac W. King and Raymond B. Smith, were adopted, and by the following vote:
<br />
<br />"A RESOLUTION COMMENDING BURRELL R. JOHNSON FOR HIS SERVICES AS COUNCILMAN
<br />TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Burrell R.
<br />and as a Councilman for
<br />its problems; and
<br />
<br />Johnson, served for one year as s member of the School Board,
<br />the past ten years, demonstrating a dedicated interest in
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this servioe, as a Councilman, required during the period from September,
<br />1964 to June 30, 1974, many hours of study and adjudication of matters in conference
<br />and special meetings, in addition to the regular session of the City Council; and
<br />
<br /> ~'~[[~AS, hi§ devotion to the general welfare of the City and all its people was
<br />manifest during his fruitful term of office during a difficult period in our City's
<br />history, due to necessity for economic restraint and inescapable demands for continued
<br />progress.
<br />
<br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the valuable contributions to the progress of our City made by Burrell R. Johnson
<br />be acknowledged with sincere gratitude and appreciation; and
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Burrell
<br />R. Johnson, and that it be made a part of the permanent records of the City Council."

<br />"A RESOLUTION COMMENDING ISAAC W. KING FOR HIS SERVICES AS COUNCIL~N
<br />TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH.

<br /> WHEREAS, Isaac W. King has served as Councilman for the past eight years, demonstrat-
<br />ing a dedicated interest in its problems; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this service required, during the period from the year 1966 to June 30,
<br />1974, many hours of study and adjudication of mat~ers in conference and special meetings,
<br />in addition to the regular session of the City Council; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, his devotion to the general welfare of the City and all its people was
<br />manifest during his fruitful term of office during a difficult period in our City's
<br />history, due to necessity for economic restraint and inescapable demands for continued
<br />progress.

<br />and as a Councilman for the past four years, demonstrating a dedicated interest in its
<br />problems; and
<br />
<br /> CFHBRBAS, this service, as a Councilman, required during the period from July 1,
<br />1970 to June 30, 1974, many hours of study and adjudication of matters in conference
<br />and special meetings, in addition to the regular session of the City Council; and
