<br /> 76-153 - On motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the following resolution was
<br />adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> "A RESOLUTION URGING THE CO~',~NDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS TO CONTINUE FULL
<br /> SCALE OPERATION OF THE NAVAL SHIPYARD MARINE BARRACKS, PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Naval Shipyard Marine Barracks, portsmouth, Virginia, has become a part
<br />of the historic heritage of the City having been constructed and continually occupied since
<br />1906; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, closure of the Marine Barracks would result in consolidation of the Naval
<br />Shipyard security qommand in Norfolk and relocation of the Sea School; and~
<br /> ~EREAS, the final stages of a rehabilitation program for the Marine Barracks in excess
<br />of $800,000 are being completed.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the Commandant of the Marine Corps is hereby urged to continue the full scale operation
<br />of the Naval Shipyard Marine Barracks, Portsmouth, Virginia.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and he hereby is, instructed to forward
<br />a copy of this resolution to the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Commandant of the
<br />Fifth Naval District."

<br /> 76-154 - On motion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by Mr. Early, the following resolution
<br />was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br />"A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH,
<br />VIRGINIA, TO PETITION OF NORFOLK AND WESTERN RAILROAD AND NORFOLK-FRANKLIN AND
<br />DANVILLE RAILROAD FOR AN INCREASE OF TARIFFS TO INCLUDE SWITCHING CHARGES IN-
<br />CURRED FROM CHARGES BY NORFOLK AND PORTSMOUTH BELT LINE RAILROAD.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Norfolk And Western Railroad and Norfolk-Franklin And Danville Railroad have
<br />requested a tariff increase to absorb switching charges incurred by them from Norfolk And
<br />Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, said proposed increase will be added to the line haul rate for all crushed
<br />aggregate transported by the Norfolk And Western Railroad to the Hampton Roads Area; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, said proposed increase will raise haul rates appraxRmately Sixt~Two and OO/1OO
<br />($62.OO) Dollars per car load to those customers situated in the South Hampton Roads Area
<br />of Tidewater.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the City Council expresses its concern resulting in the proposed increase of tariffs
<br />by Norfolk And Western Railroad and Norfolk-Franklin And Danville Railroad to include switchin
<br />charges incurred from the Norfolk And Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is instructed to forward a copy of this
<br />resolution to the Southern Freight Association, Room C, Suite 520, 151 Ellis Street, N.
<br />B., Atlanta, Georgia and to the State Corporation Commission, Blanton Building, Richmond,
<br />Virginia."

<br />"A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH,
<br />VIRGINIA, TO THE APPLICATION OF THE CIIESAPEAKE AND POTOMAC TELEPHONE COMPANY
<br />OF VIRGINIA, CASE NO. 19681.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Chesapeake And Potomac Tele~hone Company of Virginia has applied to the
<br />State Corporation Commission for an increase in tariffs; and
<br />
<br /> ~/HBREAS, the Chesapeake And Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia has recently received
<br />a tariff increase.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the State Corporation Commission be advised of the concern of the Council of the City
<br />of Portsmouth for the protection of its consumer taxpayers and that the State Corporation
<br />Commission do all that is necessary to protect the interest of the consumer taxpayers."
