March 22, 1977 <br /> <br /> At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on March 22, 1977, there were present: <br /> <br /> Richard J. Davis, Jack P. Barnes, E. Saunders Early, Jr., Archie Elliott, Jr., <br /> James W. Holley, Edward L. Oast, Jr., Robert W. WentZ, Jr., R. T. Williams, <br /> City Manager, GoFdon B. Tayloe, Jr., City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Dr. James R. Wall, Jr., Pastor, Fairview Heights Baptist Church, opened the meeting with <br />prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Davis welcomed all visitors in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wentz and seconded by Mr. Early, minUtes of the called meeting of March 8, <br />1977; minutes of the regular meeting of March 8, 1977, to be approved as received, was adopted <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 77,86 ~ Mayor Davis presented All-America mementos to Keith Ray Sawyer, Kenheth Allen <br />Sawyer, and Terry Lee Brumsey, Eagle Scouts of Troop 219, Boy Scouts o[ America. <br /> <br /> 77-87 - Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Ellio~t,'to go into election of City <br />Clerk, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Wentz nominated Mrs. Corinne B. Jeffreys. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Elliott, to close nominations, and Mrs. Jeffreys <br />was elected as City Clerk, and by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 77-74 - Action delayed on public transportation route changes from meeting of March 8, <br />1977, was presented. Letter submitted by City Manager~with changes recommended. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Wentz, the following resolution was adopted, <br />and by the following vote; TTDC to completely reassess during FY 1977-78: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION APPROVING THOSE BUS SERVICE <br />RECOM?4ENDED BY TIDEWATER TRANSPORTATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth previous <br />Commission it must insure (1) that the subsid <br />consistent with the $120,O00. approved by Coun <br />fiscal year 1977-78 to approximately $220,000. <br /> <br />CHANGES WITHIN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />ISTRICT COIvLMISSION. <br /> <br />advised the Tidewater Transportation District <br />for bus service in the City of Portsmouth be <br />il; and (2) the subsidy must be minimized for <br />; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, pursuant to these guidelines, T~dewater Transportation District Commission has <br />recommended reduction in bus service within t~e City of Portsmouth. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />it approves the bus service changes recommended by Tidewater TransPortation District Commissio: <br />Within the City of Portsmouth as shown on a p~at entitled, ~Proposed Bus Service Route changes <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott,/Holley,!
