R-25-15 <br />A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING AN HONORARY STREET NAME OF "D.A. PEACE, <br />SR. WAY" FOR THE PORTION OF RANDOLPH STREET LOCATED BETWEEN DES <br />MOINES AVENUE AND LANSING AVENUE. <br />WHEREAS, by Resolution R-24-19 adopted on July 23, 2024 the City Council adopted <br />an Honorary Street Designation Policy; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Honorary Street Designation Policy is to recognize and <br />honor the citywide contribution, impact, or fame of Portsmouth individuals and groups without <br />changing the official names of streets or the addresses of residents and businesses; and <br />WHEREAS, Devese J. Peace -Branch filed an application requesting an Honorary Street <br />Name Designation to designate a portion of Randolph Street between Des Moines Avenue and <br />Lansing Avenue as "D.A. Peace, Sr. Way"; and <br />WHEREAS, the honorary designation application seeks to honor the contributions to the <br />city of D.A. Peace, Sr., who was the former pastor of Zion Bethel United Church of Christ, for his <br />community leadership and his support of outreach programs and civic initiatives, including <br />through drug abuse recovery programs, feeding programs, youth mentorship, crime prevention, <br />and homeless assistance. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br />1. That it hereby designates the portion of Randolph Street located between Des <br />Moines Avenue and Lansing Avenue with the honorary street name of "D.A. Peace, Sr. Way". <br />2. That in accordance with the Honorary Street Designation Policy, the designated <br />name of "D.A. Peace, Sr. Way" is for honorary purposes only and does not change the official <br />name of Randolph Street. <br />3. That this resolution shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on May 27, <br />2025. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
